The Among Us Show Gets First Official Update In Forever

Fans of the popular game *Among Us* have been waiting for news, and now it’s finally here! Over a year after announcing plans for an animated TV show, the creators at Innersloth and CBS Studios have provided an update. When the project was first revealed in June 2023, excitement was high, but the lack of news since then led some to worry the show might not happen.

Actually, Innersloth recently gave an update on the *Among Us* show – their first in over a year. After a user on X, CartoonBase, wondered if the show would ever be released, the *Among Us* team confirmed they’re still developing it, but cautioned fans not to expect any news about it in the near future.

We’re still making progress on the show, but unfortunately, I don’t have any updates to share just yet! (Sorry for the lack of news, and please don’t be mad!)

This is the first update fans have received about the show since last October. Back then, the show’s creator, Owen Dennis, spoke with Deadline and described it as a humorous take on classics like Alien, Star Trek, and The Thing.

The game is intentionally eerie. You explore a nearly empty spaceship knowing an alien is onboard and hunting you, which creates a really effective, creepy atmosphere. It’s also surprisingly funny and self-aware, with clear nods to classics like ‘Alien,’ ‘Star Trek,’ and ‘The Thing.’ I enjoy blending humor with suspense, and it’s a style I’ve used in my past projects, such as ‘Infinity Train’ and ‘Regular Show.’

The upcoming *Among Us* show will probably be based on the popular video game. It will center around a spaceship crew as a shapeshifting alien secretly eliminates them, one by one.

What Is Going on With the Among Us Show?

For years, fans have been waiting to see what would become of the Among Us Show.

A first look at the new series was revealed in June 2024 during Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. The trailer showed off the show’s bright and colorful animation and highlighted its impressive voice cast, featuring stars like Elijah Wood, Ashley Johnson, and Randall Park.

Series creator Owen Dennis announced that filming for the show finished in August 2024. He shared this news in March during a presentation at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, adding that he believes audiences will enjoy it.

The show has finished filming, but viewers are still waiting to find out how and when they can watch it. It’s unclear what the hold-up is.

I read in Deadline back in October 2024 that Dennis said they were still trying to get a deal for Among Us with streamers, and honestly, it sounds like they might still be working on that even now, over a year later.

It’s true that more and more video games are being adapted into shows and movies (you can find details on upcoming adaptations here). Despite the increased competition, an *Among Us* adaptation seems likely to succeed, considering how popular the original game is.

Now that production has started, the series should be released soon, assuming it finds a streaming platform to air on.

Now that CBS Studios is part of Paramount, there’s a good chance Paramount+ will acquire the animated comedy, making it available to viewers worldwide.

Combining Among Us with Paramount’s popular Sonic the Hedgehog movies could be a big hit. It would position Paramount+ as a go-to streaming service for gamers who love these kinds of franchises.
