The 24-Year-Old Magical Girl Anime That Hit Harder Than Sailor Moon Is Streaming Free

A fantastic show that didn’t get enough attention is now available to watch for free on a streaming service that deserves more recognition too.

I noticed some good news for fans of the Full Moon o Sagashite (also known as Looking for Full Moon) anime! Studio Deen’s series is now available to stream on Tubi. Starting March 1st, you can watch all 52 episodes for free, which is great news if you’re looking for a magical girl anime to enjoy.

2000s Magical-Girl Anime Hit Full Moon o Sagashite Is Now Streaming for Free on Tubi

The story of Full Moon o Sagashite started with Arina Tanemura’s manga in 2002. It follows Mitsuki, an optimistic orphan who dreams of becoming a famous singer and finding her first love, Eichi Sakurai. However, she receives a heartbreaking diagnosis: throat cancer. The surgery needed to treat it would permanently take away her ability to sing, leaving her deeply upset.

Mitsuki is visited by two shinigami, Takuto and Meroko, and persuades them to help her achieve her lifelong dream: becoming a famous singer. In return, she promises to accept their help in moving on to the afterlife. With the amazing ability to magically appear as a 16-year-old, Mitsuki pursues her musical ambitions while also dealing with complicated relationships.

The manga first came out in January 2002, and the Full Moon o Sagashite anime, produced by Studio Deen, followed just three months later. Both the manga and the anime were well-received by both critics and viewers. Currently, the show has a rating of 7.7 out of 10 on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), based on over 300 reviews.

Last December, Crunchyroll announced its top anime titles, and surprisingly, Full Moon o Sagashite didn’t make the cut. The list included popular shows like Cardcaptor Sakura and Witch Watch, but also some more unexpected choices, such as Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury, and FUUTO PI.

Among the anime featured in Crunchyroll’s top 15, Puella Magi Madoka Magica is poised to have its biggest release yet. The new film will continue the story after the events of the 2013 movie, Puella Magi Madoka Magica New Feature: Rebellion. However, Walpurgisnacht: Rising’s original release date of February 2026 has been pushed back, and it will now be released at a later, unspecified date.
