The TV show Heated Rivalry was a huge success in 2025, and viewers are eagerly awaiting Season 2, which is expected to arrive by early 2027. Though it’s early to ask, the show’s creator strongly hinted in 2026 that a third season is very likely to happen.
Crave’s Heated Rivalry is adapted from the novel of the same name by Rachel Reid. It’s part of her Game Changers series, which tells the love stories of different male/male couples who are professional hockey players in the NHL.
Season 2 of Heated Rivalry appears to be based on The Long Game, the sixth book in the series, and once again features Ilya and Shane. Because both seasons so far have been adapted from author Reid’s books, it’s very probable that Unrivaled – the seventh book, also about Shane and Ilya – will be turned into a TV season as well, likely becoming the basis for Season 3.
Book 3 of Shane & Ilya’s Story Basically Confirms Heated Rivalry Season 3
Unrivaled by Rachel Reid Is Set for Release on September 29, 2026
I’m so excited to share some amazing news with all of us fans! Ilya and Shane are getting another book this year – mark your calendars for September 29, 2026! It’s called Unrivaled, and it’s the seventh book in the Game Changers series. Get ready to continue following their incredible love story that we’ve all fallen for!
The official synopsis teases a major turning point for the couple:
“A line has been drawn—and the hockey world is divided.
Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander are openly sharing their relationship for the first time as professional hockey players. They kept their love private for over ten years, but are now married and happily playing on the same team, receiving wonderful support from others.
Most of the time.
Fans are overwhelmingly supportive, but the couple’s relationship announcement has sparked controversy within the hockey community. Criticism, particularly from the ‘Top Shelf’ podcast and the #TakeBackHockey campaign, is growing.
It’s such a relief to see Ilya and Shane finally together, truly together, after everything they’ve been through. It feels like they’re stepping into the life they always dreamed of. But honestly, just when you think things are good, a new problem seems to be brewing – and this one feels huge.
With the series Heated Rivalry already popular on streaming platforms, it’s clear the show is generating a lot of buzz. The fifth episode, titled “I’ll Believe in Anything,” received a perfect 10/10 rating on IMDb, tying it with Breaking Bad’s famous episode “Ozymandias” for the highest-rated TV episode ever.
Given the success so far and the fact that the author is releasing a third book with plenty of new material, Crave should definitely move forward with Season 3. The new book essentially ensures fans will get another season of Heated Rivalry.
