That Time The Twilight Cast Surprised Breaking Dawn’s Director With A Choreographed Dance On Set

Can you believe it’s been twenty years since the first *Twilight* book came out? Stephenie Meyer’s vampire series has been incredibly popular for two decades, so it’s great news that the films are back in cinemas later this month. As excitement builds, director Bill Condon has been sharing memories of making the *Breaking Dawn* movies, including a charming story about a dance the cast did together on set.

Director Condon has a new movie coming out in 2025 – a musical called *Kiss of the Spider Woman* starring Jennifer Lopez and Diego Luna. Although the *Twilight* films were quite different, he remembered working on this musical while filming the large battle scene at the end of the final *Twilight* movie. He shared this memory at the New York City premiere.

The speaker unexpectedly started playing music from West Side Story, and I was surprised to find out they’d choreographed a dance just for me, knowing how much I enjoy musicals. It was a truly unforgettable moment.

I remember Bill Condon talking about that huge twist at the end of *Breaking Dawn – Part 2* – it totally shocked everyone! Taylor Lautner even said the premiere was completely “hysterical” because of it. Apparently, they worked on perfecting that one scene for almost a month. It was hilarious when Bill showed up to set one day and the entire cast was having a full-on dance-off to the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” and staging a *West Side Storystyle fight!

Bill Condon has a deep passion for musicals, having written the screenplays for films like *Chicago* and *The Greatest Showman*, and both written and directed *Dreamgirls* (2006). He also directed Disney’s live-action *Beauty and the Beast*. His newest film continues this trend, being an adaptation of a popular stage musical. Given his clear love for the genre, his *Twilight* colleagues found a perfect way to pay tribute to him.

I was searching for videos of the bonus features from *Breaking Dawn – Part 2*, especially the behind-the-scenes footage of the cast dancing. I finally found a great Instagram post showing how much fun they had filming it!

Toni Trucks, who plays Mary in the film, actually choreographed the dance, with help from MyAnna Buring (Tanya) and Lee Pace (Garrett). According to bonus features, the vampire cast members secretly practiced for a week, culminating in a dance-off with the Volturi.
