Thankfully, CBS Starts Tracker’s Course Correction Before It’s Too Late

Be warned, this article contains spoilers for the season 3 finale of Tracker, episode 15, “No Good Deed.” The episode marks a turning point for the show, helping it get back on track after some changes. Tracker quickly became the most-watched show on broadcast television when it premiered in 2024, even as the cast evolved. After the original team surrounding Colter Shaw left, the show is rebuilding its support network. For future seasons, Reenie will take a more central role, leading both Randy and Mel.

Generally, Tracker remains centered around Colter and stays true to its initial concept. Given the show’s popularity, it’s not surprising that the storytelling approach hasn’t changed much. However, with Taylor Sheridan’s Marshals now offering strong competition, Tracker needs to evolve and make some adjustments to stay fresh.

Tracker Season 3 Finally Reunites Colter With Reenie & Randy

CBS is making good changes to its new show, Tracker, and that’s smart. While the show’s main character, Colter, is popular, the story would be stronger if he spent more time with his closest team. It’s important that the show demonstrates Colter’s independence, but keeping him separate limits opportunities to build lasting relationships with other characters. Even though he talks to Reenie and Randy regularly, their interactions are much more impactful when they’re actually together on screen.

You know, one of the things I really liked about Season 3, Episode 15 of Tracker, “No Good Deed,” was how it brought Colter and Randy closer. The case involved a personal favor for Randy – his friend ended up being the person they were tracking. It was great seeing them actually work together out in the field, instead of just Randy doing research. It definitely raised the stakes for him – it’s more dangerous being directly involved, obviously – but it really strengthened their bond and gave their dynamic a lot more depth.

On top of everything else, the latest episode of Tracker brings Colter and Reenie together. This reunion isn’t related to the case they’re working on, making it all the more meaningful. Colter simply wants to make sure his friend and longtime supporter is doing okay after a very difficult year. Their brief scene in “No Good Deed” highlights that their connection is more than just a working relationship.

Why Tracker Needs To Develop Colter’s Personal Relationships Before Season 3 Ends

The show’s structure made it difficult to bring all of Colter’s initial team together before Teddi, Velma, and Bobby departed, preventing meaningful interactions between him and the whole group. This creates a storytelling issue, as the team was already established at the beginning of the series. As Tracker moves into its third season, CBS needs to delve more deeply into the characters to keep the show engaging and ensure its long-term success.

Look, everyone’s really connecting with Hartley’s character – he’s basically been holding this series together so far. But if Tracker wants to stick around on network TV for the long haul, it needs more than just these standalone weekly cases, and even solving the Shaw family mystery isn’t enough. I think we need to see more from Randy and Reenie, develop their individual stories, and really explore how their relationship with Colter evolves. Giving viewers bigger, ongoing storylines to invest in would add a lot of value and keep them coming back for more.
