To celebrate Friday the 13th, Mubi shared the first images from Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miamsa, the new film by director Jane Schoenbrun. The movie stars Gillian Anderson (known from The X-Files) and Hannah Einbinder (Hacks). Mubi also revealed the film will hit theaters on August 7, 2026. The story centers on a queer filmmaker who gets the opportunity to revive a famous horror series, and their attempt to cast the original film’s elusive final girl. This pursuit draws both women into a world filled with longing, obsession, and dread.
Jane Schoenbrun, the director of the well-received 2024 film I Saw the TV Glow, is back with a new movie called Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miamsa. The film stars Anderson and Einbinder, along with Amanda Fix (Orphan Black: Echoes), Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), Eva Victor (Sorry, Baby), Zach Cherry (Severance), Sarah Sherman (Saturday Night Live), Patrick Fischler (Mad Men), Dylan Baker (Spider-Man 2), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Yellowjackets), Quintessa Swindell (Black Adam), Kevin McDonald (Lilo & Stitch), and Jack Haven (I Saw the TV Glow). Check out the first images from the movie below.
‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miamsa’ Enters Competitive Summer Movie Season

Jane Schoenbrun, the director, has likened her film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miamsa, to a blend of the horror of Friday the 13th and the romantic drama of A Portrait of a Lady on Fire. This makes the announcement of a release date coinciding with Friday the 13th particularly fitting. Interestingly, four previous Friday the 13th movies – Friday the 13th Part III, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, and Freddy vs. Jason – were also released in August.
Early August 2026 looks like it will be a busy time at the movies! Universal Pictures is releasing a new romantic comedy called One Night Only, directed by Will Gluck and starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner. Fans of Super Troopers can look forward to the third movie in the series from Searchlight Pictures. Bleaker Street will release the horror thriller The Third Parent, featuring Crispin Glover, Rob Lowe, and Roselyn Sánchez. These films, along with Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miamsa, will all be competing with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is entering its second weekend in theaters.

Although Mubi is a smaller distributor, their recent success with The Substance – which earned a Best Picture nomination and was their most popular film – gives hope that Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miamsa could also be a big hit. Director Schoenbrun’s previous film, I Saw the TV Glow, was highly praised, even receiving a recommendation from Martin Scorsese. With a strong cast including Anderson and Einbinder, and a demand for slasher films like Friday the 13th while that franchise is on hold, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miamsa is definitely a film to watch out for this summer.
