Taylor Sheridan is the creator of popular shows on Paramount+, including Tulsa King, Lioness, and Mayor of Kingstown. One of these series is particularly noteworthy, and a brand new final trailer has just been released.
The popular Western series Landman is returning for a second season. After its November 2024 premiere, the show was quickly renewed and will be back on Paramount+ on November 16th. A new trailer recently released showcases the continuing story, starring Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a landman navigating the booming oil industry of West Texas – a world of wealth and risk with significant impacts on the environment, the economy, and global politics. The first glimpse of Season 2 arrived in October.
The second season will introduce Sam Elliott as Tommy’s father, and he appears in the recently released trailer. In the two-minute clip, Billy Bob Thornton’s character explains, “You think you understand how this business works, but you don’t. You have to know the rules of the game to bend them, and you really have to know ‘em to break ‘em.” The trailer also offers a first look at Elliott’s character, showing a conversation with Tommy. Elliott asks, “What’s the plan here?” and Tommy replies, “We’re bringing you home.”
Most shows take a long time to return with new seasons, but Landman is different – Season 2 is coming just one year after Season 1. This quick turnaround is a good sign for the show, considering the first season was a huge hit on Paramount+, breaking numerous streaming records and becoming the platform’s most-watched original series ever.
Reviews for Season 1 Were Mixed
Okay, so I’ve been following the numbers for Taylor Sheridan’s new show, Landman, and it’s doing surprisingly well! In its first month on Paramount+, it pulled in almost 15 million viewers – even better than Yellowstone or Lioness, which is huge. It’s also really popular on demand. As of late October, it was sitting at number 10 overall on Paramount+ (through Amazon Channels). The critics were kind of split on Season 1 – Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 78% score, but regular viewers only gave it a 64%, so it’s definitely sparking some discussion.
Alongside Thornton and Elliott, the cast of Landman also features Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, and Colm Feore. Thornton explained that he guides Moore’s character through the world of oil, as she’s new to the industry. He emphasized the difference between book knowledge and practical experience, stating he shows her how to navigate these relationships. In the upcoming season, Moore’s character, Cami, is dealing with the aftermath of her husband Monty’s (Jon Hamm) death from the previous season.
Landman Season 2 will premiere on Paramount+ on Nov. 16.
