As a huge fan of modern Westerns, I’ve been completely hooked by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace’s work! Seriously, their series is dominating the streaming landscape, especially now that Season 2 has just finished airing. It’s exciting to see them really making a mark.
I’m so excited to share that Landman is officially the most popular show on Paramount+ in the US, according to FlixPatrol! It’s not just a hit here either – it’s cracked the top ten in an incredible 28 countries and is currently number three on the worldwide streaming charts. It’s really taking the world by storm, and I can’t wait to see where it goes next!
Premiering in 2024, Landman was created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, drawing inspiration from Wallace’s Boomtown podcast. The show centers around Tommy, a landman and operations VP for M-Tex Oil, and his challenging work balancing the interests of local communities, oil company leaders, and criminal organizations in the West Texas oilfields.
In addition to Kevin Costner’s character, Landman boasts a talented cast including Ali Larter as Tommy’s former wife, Angela, and Jacob Lofland and Michelle Randolph as their children, Cooper and Ainsley. Kayla Wallace plays Rebecca Falcone, a lawyer involved in the legal side of things, and Demi Moore portrays Cami Miller, the wife of Monty Miller (played by Jon Hamm), the owner of M-Tex Oil. Following Monty’s death in Season 1, Cami takes charge of the company in Season 2.
Critics generally liked the premiere of Landman, but viewers have been less enthusiastic. As of today, the show has an 80% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on reviews. However, viewers themselves gave it a lower score of 55% on the site’s “Popcornmeter,” averaging over 2,000 reviews from the first two seasons.
While filming the series, Ali Larter spoke highly of her co-star, Michelle Randolph. She remembered a challenging and fast-paced environment and how having each other’s support helped them connect and build a strong bond.
What’s Next for Landman After Season 2?
Though Paramount+ renewed Landman for Season 3 in December, the show’s future beyond 2029 is uncertain and could look quite different. Taylor Sheridan, the creator behind many successful shows for Paramount, is stepping away, but Christian Wallace will remain as showrunner if the series continues past 2029.
I’m incredibly excited about the future of Landman. Honestly, the possibilities feel endless! We’ve only just scratched the surface after two seasons, and the creators have so many more stories they want to tell. It’s amazing to think about where things could go – the world of oil exploration is huge, and there’s so much potential left to explore.
Landman is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
