Taron Egerton’s The Kingsman Franchise Deserves a Resurrection

The Kingsman series seems to be failing quickly, despite a strong start. The first film in 2014 was a surprising success, and it looked like the franchise could become a major cinematic universe, competing with established spy series like James Bond and Mission: Impossible. With a talented cast, including Taron Egerton, it had all the potential for rapid growth – but things haven’t worked out as planned.

Despite only three movies being released, the future of the Kingsman franchise is uncertain, and its star is fading. Although 20th Century Studios claims to be developing another film, its release date keeps getting delayed, leaving fans wondering if it will ever happen. Still, the series deserves a chance to regain its audience after years of anticipation.

Fans Still Want to See Kingsman 3

Looking back, the Kingsman series got off to a fantastic start twelve years ago. The first film, Kingsman: The Secret Service, was a genuine hit – critics loved it, and audiences flocked to see it, really establishing the franchise. But honestly, the 2017 sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, didn’t quite live up to the original. It just didn’t resonate with me – or many others, it seemed – in the same way.

The second movie disappointed fans with its over-the-top silliness, confusing changes to established storylines, and obvious attempts to set up future installments. This led to a long pause for the series. Now, nearly a decade after The Golden Circle, it’s time for a comeback.

A new Kingsman movie, titled The Blue Blood, is still being made, but its release date has been delayed multiple times. Although the people making the film won’t say it publicly, some believe the delays are because they’re worried it might receive a negative reaction similar to the one The Golden Circle got.

Despite the mixed reception of The Golden Circle, there’s still strong interest in the Kingsman series, and that shouldn’t stop 20th Century Fox from making a third film. If The Blue Blood gets made, audiences will likely go to see it in theaters.

Given how much potential the Kingsman series has, it’s surprising that a new installment hasn’t come out sooner. Taron Egerton, the actor who played Eggsy, has continued to star in successful films like Rocketman and Carry-On since his last appearance in the Kingsman world. Plus, director Matthew Vaughn is known for his incredibly creative action scenes, and fans are eager to see what he’ll bring to a future Kingsman movie.

The Kingsman series doesn’t need to end after three films. Since the movies are based on Mark Millar’s comic books, there’s still a lot of source material available for future installments. It would be better to continue adapting those comics instead of creating entirely new stories, as happened with the second film. With three separate storylines remaining in the comics, the Kingsman universe has plenty of ideas to keep Eggsy’s adventures going.

Why Is Kingsman 3 Taking So Long?

Despite rumors, it doesn’t appear that a third main Kingsman film, often referred to as The Blue Blood, is currently being made. Instead, the franchise has focused on prequels. In 2021, Matthew Vaughn directed The King’s Man, which showed how the Kingsman organization began, with Ralph Fiennes as the lead. Another prequel, The King’s Man: The Traitor King, is planned, but a release date hasn’t been announced yet.

A new Disney+ series focusing on Statesman, the American version of the Kingsman organization featured in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, is in the works. The show will likely include characters like Agent Tequila (Channing Tatum) and Agent Whiskey (Pedro Pascal). It’s currently unknown whether any actors from The Golden Circle will reprise their roles or when the series will premiere.

To add to everything else, Apple’s film Argylle, also directed by Matthew Vaughn, has a surprise ending that connects it to the Kingsman universe – even though some of the actors already appeared in Kingsman films. This hints at a possible continuation or crossover, but the film’s poor reviews might prevent those plans from happening.

Even though the film has faced several delays, Kingsman: The Blue Blood is still planned for release in 2027. Originally scheduled to start filming in 2019, the project was first pushed back to 2022. Now, it’s uncertain when director Matthew Vaughn intends to begin production, and if filming doesn’t start soon, the 2027 release date is unlikely to happen.

The new Kingsman movie, The Blue Blood, won’t be released for at least ten years after The Golden Circle, which is a significant delay. If it takes much longer, the gap between releases will be even bigger than the one between the Star Wars prequel and sequel trilogies. Time is running out for this film to make a strong impact.

If new Kingsman movies aren’t made soon, people will eventually lose interest. The continued delays for Kingsman 3 are creating a sense of urgency, as time is running out to keep fans engaged.

You can watch Kingsman: The Secret Service on Hulu or Disney+, and Kingsman: The Golden Circle is streaming on HBO Max.
