Taron Egerton’s She Rides Shotgun Surges to #1 on Prime Video

Taron Egerton, known for his roles in films like Rocketman (where he played Elton John and won a Golden Globe), is seeing renewed interest in his upcoming 2025 crime thriller from Lionsgate.

Currently, the top movie on Prime Video globally is She Rides Shotgun, based on Jordan Harper’s 2017 novel. Released in August, the film features Taron Egerton as Nate Mcclusky, a man recently out of prison. In the United States, it’s also the third most-streamed movie on MGM+.

Nate is hoping for a new beginning and reconnects with his estranged daughter, Polly (Ana Sophia Heger). They end up on the run together, trying to escape Nate’s dangerous past. The film also stars Rob Yang, Odessa A’zion, David Lyons, and John Carol Lynch. She Rides Shotgun has been praised by critics, earning an 87% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 69 reviews, and is also popular with audiences, who give it a 91% rating on the site.

Nick Rowland directed the film She Rides Shotgun, with a screenplay by Rowland, Harper, Luke Piotrowski, and Ben Collins. Ahead of the film’s August release, Taron Egerton explained his approach to choosing projects: “I focus on creating work that’s personally meaningful, and I try not to worry too much about how others will perceive it.” He continued, saying he prefers to follow his creative instincts and concentrate on the work itself, rather than overthinking the reasons behind his choices.

Egerton explained that the film She Rides Shotgun had a classic, almost timeless quality, feeling like it could have been made decades ago. He described it as an ‘old-school movie’ and said he specifically chose to work with veteran actors he greatly admired, some of whom he already knew personally, hoping to learn from their experience and talent.

Egerton Stars in an Apple TV True-Crime Series

I’ve been totally hooked on Smoke, starring Jurnee Smollett and Rafe Spall! It finished up on August 15th, 2025, and I’m really hoping the streaming service picks it up for another season. It’s created by Dennis Lehane and is actually based on a fascinating true-crime podcast called Firebug.

In the film Smoke, Ed Harris plays Dave Gudsen, a fire investigator who partners with Detective Michelle Calderone, played by Jurnee Smollett, to solve a string of arson cases in the made-up town of Umberland. The cast also includes Greg Kinnear, John Leguizamo, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Luke Roessler, Adina Porter, and Anna Chlumsky.

Edgerton’s She Rides Shotgun is streaming on Prime Video worldwide and on MGM+ in the United States.
