Tamsy Caines is the Angel in Gachiakuta & Rudo’s Biggest Enemy

I just finished watching Gachiakuta, one of the most talked-about anime of the year, and its first season was a wild ride! It had 24 episodes that really stayed true to the manga. I was lucky enough to avoid spoilers, and the post-credits scene of the finale completely blew me away. It revealed what happened to Amo Empool, and even showed us who was responsible for her vanishing.

Tamsy Caines, first appearing in episode seven of the anime, is now confirmed to be a key character, bringing the adaptation much closer to the original manga storyline. She’s proving to be even more cunning and controlling than Makima from Chainsaw Man, and her role in the larger plot of Gachiakuta is turning out to be surprisingly significant.

Gachiakuta’s Episode 24 Plot Twist Exposes Tamsy Caines as a Villain

Wow, the season finale of Gachiakuta really threw me for a loop! It turns out Rudo and the original creator of the Watchman stories actually share the same last name – Surebrec! But just when I thought things were wrapping up, the scene after the credits hinted at what’s coming next in Chapters 88, “I Want to Eat Cake,” and 89, “Finding Information.” I can’t wait to see what happens!

The latest manga chapters offer a look at what happened to Amo Empool after she appeared to be kidnapped by Jabber Wonger at the end of the Lady of Penta Arc. Chapters 88 and 89 show Amo, weakened and in chains, pleading for food with a shadowy figure. While the manga keeps this figure’s identity a secret for a while, the anime unexpectedly revealed it to be Tamsy Caines who was responsible for Amo’s capture.

Throughout most of the anime, Tamsy appears calm, collected, and dependable as a Cleaner and member of Team Eager. However, chapter 92, “Tamsy’s Day Off,” shows a very different side of him. Beneath his composed exterior, Tamsy is actually cruel and unstable. He deliberately torments Amo, whom he’s been starving, by eating cake right in front of her. He also seems to get pleasure from watching Rudo frantically search for Amo, even though he knows he’s the one holding her captive.

Tamsy Caines is the Angel in Gachiakuta

Tamsy Caines is a major villain in Gachiakuta, arguably the biggest the series has seen so far. Though Rudo and the other Cleaners believe he’s a kind and supportive ally, Tamsy is actually the Angel – the one who started everything. He gave Amo the Watchman boots and then traveled to the Sphere, where he killed Regto and made it look like Rudo was responsible.

In chapter 111 of Gachiakuta, it’s revealed that Tamsy has a deeper understanding of the Watchman series than he appears to, and he currently possesses the Watchman Book, having stolen it from Regto. This book, a Vital Instrument, gives him the power to alter people’s memories, giving him a significant advantage in a game Rudo is unaware he’s even participating in.

It’s unclear exactly why Tamsy is manipulating Rudo so intensely, but he’s admitted he wants to see Rudo succeed only to ultimately fail and be destroyed. He strangely calls this an act of love, revealing a deeply disturbing and sadistic nature that surpasses even that of Zodyl Typhon.

How Will Tamsy’s Reveal Change Things in the Anime?

Since Chapter 92, Tamsy Caines has become a really powerful presence in Gachiakuta. Even when he’s not directly involved, he feels like the main villain, and it’s clear everything Rudo does is being watched and manipulated by Tamsy from behind the scenes. I constantly felt like he was pulling the strings, even when he wasn’t physically present.

Even as Tamsy wins Rudo over in the anime, the danger from Zodyl and the Raiders seems to lessen. However, viewers understand that the real threat is actually someone close to Rudo, pretending to be a friend.

Tamsy Caines has dramatically increased the suspense in Gachiakuta, turning the story into a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase that rivals Death Note. While he’s managed to stay hidden for most of the series, more characters are starting to suspect something is off. Arkha Corvus, who leads the Cleaners, is particularly suspicious, and it won’t be long before Tamsy’s true identity is revealed. Hopefully, when that happens, we’ll finally learn about his past and what drives him.
