Okay, so my latest movie definitely didn’t have the opening weekend anyone hoped for – it’s actually being talked about as one of the worst for a wide release ever. It was averaging only around $650 per theater, which is rough. But honestly, I’m still really proud of it! I posted on Instagram about how much I believe in the film, and I’m standing by it, no matter what the box office numbers say.
I’m incredibly proud of this film – of David’s vision, the story we shared, and the chance to portray someone as powerful and determined as Christy Martin. It’s been a true honor to be a part of this project.
As a movie lover, what really struck me about this film is its powerful message of survival, courage, and hope. Beyond just being a great story, it’s connected to something truly important. We all got involved because we believed sharing Christy’s story could genuinely make a difference and even save lives, and through the work we’ve done, we’ve been able to shine a light on the issue of domestic violence and help those affected.
I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who connected with this story, both now and in the future. If Christy inspires just one woman to find safety, then we’ve achieved what we set out to do, and I’m immensely proud. We created this project not just to reach a large audience, but to make a real difference, and Christy has been the most meaningful project of my career. Thank you, Christy. I love you.
The comments on Sweeney’s post are pretty much what you’d expect – some people are criticizing the actress for various reasons, while others are defending her against that negativity.
Sydney Sweeney Could Still Deal a Knockout Blow to Her Critics
Okay, so I’m a big Sydney Sweeney fan, and while it’s been great to see her in successful movies like Anyone But You and that scary film Immaculate, this year has been a bit rough for her, honestly. Two of her movies, Americana and Eden, didn’t do well at all financially, and unfortunately, her latest, Christy, just had the worst opening weekend of her career. It’s a shame, because I really like her work!
Sydney Sweeney has faced ongoing criticism regarding both an advertising campaign for American Eagle jeans and her political views, which continue to attract online harassment. Despite these challenges, her new film, Christy, could prove to be a major success.
The movie will be available to rent or buy online soon, followed by release on streaming platforms, where it’s expected to gain more traction – a common pattern for films that didn’t perform well in theaters. Although reviews from critics have been mixed, audiences have loved it, giving it a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Everyone agrees that Anya Sweeney’s performance is outstanding and deserves Oscar consideration.
Sweeney is expected to be a strong contender when the Academy Award nominations are announced. Even a nomination would be a positive outcome considering the film didn’t perform well at the box office, and a win would be even better. Although Christy wasn’t a commercial success, critics haven’t panned it – it simply seems to have been released at an unfavorable time.
