Following her introduction as Kara Zor-El in this summer’s Superman movie, Superman will be back for the Supergirl film in the summer of 2026. After James Gunn’s successful 2025 movie, it was uncertain if Clark Kent would appear with his cousin Kara in her first DC Universe film. However, Milly Alcock and director Craig Gillespie have now confirmed that Superman will indeed be a part of Supergirl’s story.
I was at CCXP in Brazil on December 7th, representing ScreenRant at the DC Studios’ virtual trailer launch for Supergirl. The event featured a special interview with Milly Alcock and Craig Gillespie, led by James Gunn. Following the trailer reveal, Alcock shared her experience starting work on the 2026 film, and surprisingly mentioned that her very first day on set involved filming with Superman.
Milly Alcock described her first day on the set of ‘Supergirl’ as incredibly exciting, saying it involved working with…
Craig Gillespie: It was with Superman.
Milly Alcock: It was with Superman.
Craig Gillespie: Yeah. And you weren’t in the suit.
Milly Alcock: And I wasn’t in the suit and I was speaking-
Craig Gillespie: A different language.
Milly Alcock: … a different language. Yeah, that day was really hard. It was two degrees.
Craig Gillespie: Yeah, you jumped right in the deep end.
Milly Alcock: Yeah, that was a hard day.
Craig Gillespie: The whole scene was in Kryptonian.
Milly Alcock: The whole scene was. Yeah.
Craig Gillespie: Yeah, Kryptonian.
Milly Alcock: Yeah.
Craig Gillespie: For you.
Milly Alcock: For me.
While they didn’t mention David Corenswet, who plays Clark Kent, it’s now confirmed that Superman will appear in Supergirl and be part of a scene focused on Kryptonian culture. Alcock and Gillespie explained that Kara Zor-El will be speaking only in the Kryptonian language during this scene. However, they weren’t clear on whether Superman will also be speaking Kryptonian.

The destruction of Krypton is central to the story of Supergirl and her development in the 2026 movie, so Superman’s return might involve both cousins exploring their shared history and feelings about their home planet. This could include a scene performed in another language, something actress Milly Alcock is already familiar with, having spoken the made-up language High Valyrian in several scenes of House of the Dragon.
Something really interesting came out of the recent Q&A! Apparently, when I first saw the pictures of Alcock filming with Superman, she wasn’t even in the Supergirl suit yet. This got me thinking – maybe Clark Kent actually visits her while she’s traveling around to all these different planets throughout the movie. Alcock mentioned Kara doesn’t fully become Supergirl until the very end, and Gillespie added that the whole film takes place in outer space! That makes it even more likely Superman finds her on one of those planets early on in her journey. It’s a cool thought, and explains why she wasn’t suited up right away!
As a big DC fan, I thought it was a clever move to have Milly Alcock’s Supergirl pop up briefly in Superman. Now, it only feels right that Superman would do the same and make a little appearance in the Supergirl series. What’s really interesting, though, is that Supergirl seems to be going for a much grittier, darker feel than the Superman movie. Because of that, I’m expecting to see a different side of Clark Kent – maybe a bit more complex than what we’ll get in 2025.
When the Supergirl movie, starring Milly Alcock, arrives in theaters on June 26, 2026, it will kick off the future of the DC Universe, leading into James Gunn’s upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. Similar to how a cameo by Lex Luthor in season 2 of Peacemaker foreshadowed the sequel’s plot, Supergirl’s appearance in the film is expected to offer clues about what’s coming for Superman in Man of Tomorrow.
