The future of one potential Superman spin-off show is looking pretty terrific.
Earlier this month, the movie “Superman,” produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures, directed by James Gunn, hit theaters in the United States. In this film, David Corenswet portrays the main character Superman, Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult takes on the role of Lex Luthor.
As per a recent report from Wall Street Journal, Gunn is currently contemplating the production of two DCU series that will act as spin-offs to Superman. One of these shows would primarily center around Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific character, while the other would revolve around Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen character.
What is the new update on the Mister Terrific Superman spin-off show?
It appears that, as reported by DC Films News on their platform, DC Comics has recently applied for a new trademark encompassing Mr. Terrific and Mister Miracle. This trademark covers various aspects such as movies.
The news about Mister Miracle isn’t too shocking since we already know Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are producing an animated series created by Tom King. What makes Mr. Terrific intriguing, though, is that it suggests the show is edging closer to becoming a tangible project.
It’s worth mentioning that filing for a trademark doesn’t automatically mean the project is underway – it might simply be a precautionary measure by DC to avoid future trademark issues if the project gets approved. At present, James Gunn has not confirmed that a Mr. Terrific series featuring Gathegi for the DC Universe is in active development.
In other words, Gathegi shared with Variety that he currently has a multi-faceted agreement with DC, but the precise details of these projects remain unclear to him as of now.
James emphasizes that they won’t start production without fully prepared scripts, so whatever plans they have for my characters doesn’t matter until the draft is ready for filming. In other words, I don’t jump to conclusions; I wait until things are concrete before getting too excited about being part of this universe. Whether or not that happens depends on time, faith, and the efforts of others.
