Valerie Perrine, the Academy Award-nominated actress, passed away on Monday, March 23rd, in Beverly Hills at the age of 82 after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson’s disease. She was widely recognized for her performances in the 1974 film Lenny, a biopic about Lenny Bruce, and as Miss Teschmacher in the Superman movies, where she played Lex Luthor’s girlfriend. Perrine’s final film role was as Ethel in the 2016 movie Silver Skies, and she later appeared as herself in the 2017 documentary The Fabulous Allan Carr.
Stacey Souther, a friend of the actress, shared the news of her passing on Facebook, praising her strength during her long fight with Parkinson’s disease. Souther also revealed that the actress had a specific wish for her burial, but didn’t have the funds to cover the costs. A GoFundMe page has been set up with the hope that fans will contribute to fulfill her final request. You can find Souther’s full statement, which details the actress’s decade-long battle with Parkinson’s, below.
It is with great sadness that I share the news of Valerie’s passing. She fought Parkinson’s disease with remarkable strength and grace, always maintaining a positive attitude. She lived a full and wonderful life and inspired everyone who knew her. Her loss leaves a void in the world. We are asking for donations, shares, and support for a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of her funeral. Her wish was to be buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery, but after a long and difficult 15-year battle with Parkinson’s, she unfortunately didn’t have the funds. Let’s work together to honor her final wish – she deserves a peaceful resting place.
Ken Perrine, Valerie’s brother, shared his grief, saying he was heartbroken by her passing this morning. He described her as living a remarkable life and said she would be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her, as well as her fans. He added that she was a fighter who never lost hope.
The actress enjoyed a long and successful career, and she had a significant impact on the entertainment world. Numerous articles, including extensive coverage in The Hollywood Reporter, documented her work, roles, and connections with others in the industry.
So far in 2026, we’ve sadly lost several well-known figures, including Catherine O’Hara, Chuck Norris, and James Van Der Beek. While it’s always difficult to say goodbye to beloved actors and Hollywood stars like Perrine, their films and performances will continue to be enjoyed for years to come, offering a lasting legacy.
