Okay, so the new trailer definitely caused a stir – and it’s not even about Zack Snyder’s vision this time! Even though James Gunn didn’t actually write or direct this particular movie, a lot of fans are already voicing their disappointment, and they’re making it very clear online. It’s a pretty divided reaction, to say the least.
In the summer of 2026, Supergirl is set to be DC’s biggest movie release. Milly Alcock will star as Kara Zor-El, facing off against villains played by Jason Momoa (reprising his role after Aquaman) and Krem of the Yellow Hills. The recently released trailer has given fans their first real glimpse of the film, sparking a lot of discussion. Many are excited about the casting of Alcock and Momoa, with some even predicting it will be the best movie of the year. However, others have criticized the film and James Gunn, suggesting it relies too heavily on the style of Guardians of the Galaxy.
James Gunn seems to face criticism no matter what he does with the DC Universe. Even when complaints don’t make sense or ignore how the characters have been portrayed in the past, negativity still arises.
Many viewers focused on a brief, humorous scene where Krypto urinates on a Superman newspaper, and didn’t seem to enjoy it. Despite this, the scene served to highlight the differences in personality between Krypto, Supergirl, and Superman.
It’s inevitable that people are comparing this to Guardians of the Galaxy, and some have even joked that the director simply repurposed sets and props from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While that’s probably not true, the similarities are noticeable. Some viewers have also criticized changes made to certain characters, like Krem, who seems to have been made more like a Guardians character.
‘Supergirl’ Is Getting One Thing Very Right
Many people excited about the upcoming DCU movie are praising one thing in particular: Jason Momoa’s performance as Lobo. Even those who are waiting to see the full film before judging are consistently impressed with him in the role, which was expected to be a highlight.
Even though he appears only briefly in the trailer, fans overwhelmingly agree that Lobo is the most exciting part of the movie based on what’s been shown so far.
It was widely known that Jason Momoa would be playing Lobo, making it one of the worst-kept secrets in superhero movie history. After James Gunn and Peter Safran became the heads of the DC Universe, they met with Momoa, who excitedly discussed his future with the franchise, calling it a perfect role for him. Although he didn’t say the name ‘Lobo’ at the time, his enthusiasm made it clear that was the part he’d be taking on, given his known fondness for the character.
With just over six months to go and more trailers on the way, Supergirl is set to arrive in theaters and determine the future of the DC Universe.
