Okay, so here’s the latest on Supergirl: it sounds like the filmmakers are still scrambling to finalize things. I’m hearing they’ve made another significant creative shift, and this is happening with only three months to go until the release date. It’s a bit concerning, honestly, to see this kind of last-minute overhaul so close to launch – hopefully, it all comes together!
The new Supergirl movie, from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures, will be in U.S. theaters this June. Craig Gillespie directed the film, and Milly Alcock returns as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, following her brief appearance in James Gunn’s 2025 Superman movie.
What is the creative change to Supergirl?
Ramin Djawadi, the composer for Game of Thrones, was initially chosen to create the music for Supergirl. However, recent reports indicate that Tom Holkenborg, also known as Junkie XL, has taken over the role.
According to the official Supergirl website, Claudia Sarne is composing the music for the film. Sarne has a strong background in film and television, with previous credits including the movies The Book of Eli, Broken City, Triple 9, Corazón, Earthquake Bird, Lost in the Jungle, and Love+War. She’s also composed music for TV shows like Outcast, The Defiant Ones, and Black Mirror.
I have to admit, I was a little surprised by the recent changes behind the scenes with the music for the DC films. It’s a bit mysterious why things are shifting, but honestly, I’m not too worried as a fan. I remember when John Murphy was first announced for the Superman score, and then later we found out David Fleming had also been involved – they ended up sharing the credit, which is great! It happened pretty close to the release date – around April 2025, just three months before the movie came out – but it all seemed to work out, and I’m hoping this latest change will too.
The new season of Supergirl begins with a personal attack that forces Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, to team up with a surprising ally. Together, they embark on a vast, space-spanning quest for both revenge and to bring justice to those responsible.
Supergirl, featuring Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, and Jason Momoa as Lobo, is scheduled to come out on June 26, 2026.
