A new Forbes report indicates that the upcoming Supergirl movie cost $200 million to make. This is a bit less than the budget for James Gunn’s Superman film, which was around $225 million.

Look, as a movie fan, I’m really curious to see how Supergirl does. Superman did pretty well, bringing in around $616.7 million worldwide, even though it was up against big movies like the new Jurassic World and Fantastic Four reboot. But Supergirl‘s release timing is… tricky. It’s coming out right after Toy Story 5 and just before Minions 3 hits theaters, so honestly, it’s hard to predict how much money it’ll make. It could really go either way.

The cast of Supergirl features Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, Jason Momoa as Lobo, and Ferdinand Kingsley as Elias Knoll, alongside Alcock and Schoenaerts.

The new film is inspired by the comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, created by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. The story follows Supergirl as she struggles with a lack of purpose, feeling overshadowed by Superman and questioning her past. After witnessing the destruction of her home planet and being sent to Earth to protect a cousin who ultimately didn’t need saving, she feels lost. Everything changes when a young alien girl, whose world has also been destroyed, seeks her help in a quest for revenge. This girl is determined to avenge her planet, even if it means taking on the task alone. Together, Supergirl, a dog, and this heartbroken girl embark on a dangerous journey through space that will profoundly impact them all.
