Super Mario Galaxy Theory Suggests Bowser Jr. Will Replace A Classic Video Game Villain

When the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie arrives, Bowser Jr. will likely be a key villain. The first trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie shows him as a significant threat to Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, and Yoshi.

It seems Bowser Jr. will kick off the story by saving his dad, which will then lead Mario and friends on a huge, intergalactic adventure. We don’t know many details about what he’s planning yet, so a lot of it is still a mystery.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s Story Could Be Based Partially On Yoshi’s Island

The latest trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie didn’t show Bowser Jr., but it might suggest how he’ll be included in the story. The trailer ends with Baby Mario and Baby Luigi alongside Yoshi and Toad, which is a nod to the game Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island.

In Yoshi’s Island, players control Yoshi, who is tasked with protecting Baby Mario in a story set before the main Super Mario games. The main villain is a younger version of Bowser, known as Baby Bowser. Yoshi must carry Baby Mario through different stages and ultimately defeat Baby Bowser in a final showdown.

The nod to Yoshi’s Island in the trailer might just be a fun hidden detail. Perhaps Mario and Luigi are briefly turned back into babies by Kamek’s magic as a reference to the game. Alternatively, this baby phase could be a major part of the story, meaning Yoshi would play a bigger role in protecting them for a longer time.

Bowser Jr. Could Take Baby Bowser’s Role In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

If the creators of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie explored a similar storyline with Yoshi, Baby Mario, and Luigi, they could show Bowser Jr. acting like Baby Bowser in Yoshi’s Island. Interestingly, after that game, Baby Bowser became known as Yoshi’s primary enemy, and went on to be the main villain in multiple Yoshi games, including Yoshi’s Story and Yoshi’s Woolly World.

Baby Bowser and Bowser Jr. look and act so alike that people often mistake one for the other. Because of this, the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie might combine the two characters, having Bowser Jr. play both his usual role and that of a younger Baby Bowser.

This could allow The Super Mario Galaxy Movie to give Yoshi a personal enemy during the final fight. While Mario and Luigi are expected to battle Bowser once more, Yoshi could have his own big showdown with Bowser’s son.
