Studio Ghibli recently released an official “Fire Demon Coach Jacket” created in partnership with Russell Athletic. The sleeves showcase Calcifer, the charming and fiery demon who powers Howl’s castle. You can see official photos of the jacket below.

Similar to past collections of toys, jewelry, and home goods, this jacket features detailed artwork inspired by the character. The design showcases Calcifer’s range of expressions on the sleeves. Orange flames are depicted on the right sleeve, while blue flames appear on the left – a choice that adds visual variety and highlights Calcifer’s multifaceted personality.
This jacket is made of lightweight nylon and lined with soft fleece, making it perfect for cold weather but versatile enough for milder temperatures. You can wear it with a wide range of outfits, like T-shirts, denim shirts, shorts, wide-leg pants, or slim pants. It features bright images of the beloved mascot from Howl‘s Moving Castle, and the front lapel showcases a picture of Sophie’s Castle as it appears at the end of the film.
The *Howl’s Moving Castlethemed coach jacket is one of the more expensive items of clothing available from Studio Ghibli. While it doesn’t cost as much as some of the studio’s re-released items – one will set you back around $251.45 in late 2025 – dedicated fans will still need to spend about 24,200 yen (approximately $154) to get it. When it first came out in October 2022, it cost 19,800 yen ($126), so the price has gone up somewhat since then.
Diana Wynne Jones’s popular fantasy novel, Howl’s Moving Castle, became a famous anime film directed by Hayao Miyazaki, a co-founder of Studio Ghibli. The story centers on a kind but insecure young woman who is unexpectedly taken away by the charming and enigmatic wizard Howl. Their journey is complicated by a jealous sorceress, the Witch of the Waste, who desires Howl’s attention.
The witch, furious that Howl was kind to Sophie, turned her into an old woman. This led Sophie to seek help from Howl himself. While working as a cleaner in his castle, Sophie discovered that Howl was also under a dangerous curse that was stripping away his human side.
Donguri Sora doesn’t ship directly outside of Japan, but you can find their products internationally through websites like Meccha Japan and Sugoi Mart. In the United States, Ghibli merchandise is widely available at stores like Hot Topic, Barnes & Noble, and BoxLunch.
