Studio Ghibli Combines Nostalgia & Anime Home Decor With New Totoro & Kiki Photo Frame Release

Both My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service are among Studio Ghibli‘s most popular films, known for their funny, magical, and heartwarming stories. To celebrate these classics, Donguri Sora has just released two new photo frames as part of their official Ghibli merchandise line.

Inspired by the world of Studio Ghibli and featured on Donguri Sora’s website, these items capture the charming spirit of the films. One design is based on Kiki’s mother’s cozy home, complete with dried flowers, herbs, and miniature spellbooks arranged on a shelf – reflecting her talent for creating healing potions. Jiji, Kiki’s black cat, is also included, looking up with a curious expression.

The design of Totoro’s frame was inspired by the large camphor tree where the forest spirit lives. Totoro and smaller versions of him are shown resting in different parts of the tree and around its roots. You can see official images of both frames in the gallery below.

These frames are perfect for displaying photos that are around 5 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide, making them a thoughtful gift for friends and colleagues. They’re a great way to bring a little Ghibli magic to any workspace or home. The Kiki frame comes with a sample image of Kiki and her mother, along with a sweet quote from her mother: “It’s not really important what color your dress is. What matters is the heart inside it.”

The placeholder card for Totoro features Satsuki, Mei, and their father standing under the iconic tree. It also includes a message, written only in Japanese. Both this card and the Kiki’s Delivery Service frame are somewhat pricey, but the Kiki frame is considerably more expensive. It costs 12,100 yen (about $77.54) with tax, while the Totoro card is just 9,900 yen (~$63.44).

Released in 1988, My Neighbor Totoro tells the story of sisters Satsuki and Mei who move to the countryside with their father while their mother recovers from an illness. They soon learn from their friendly landlord, Granny, that magical spirits inhabit the woods—spirits only children can see.

While Satsuki is at school, her four-year-old sister Mei explores the backyard and discovers Totoro – a kind, large creature who can fly through the air and magically help gardens grow. After Satsuki gives him a gift, Totoro becomes friends with the girls and even helps them when they really need it.

Kiki’s Delivery Service is a heartwarming story about growing up. It’s set in a world where young witches need to live on their own for a year to improve their skills. Thirteen-year-old Kiki and her cat, Jiji, leave home on her mother’s broomstick and decide to start a new life in a bustling town by the sea.

After using her magic to help a friendly baker named Osono, Kiki starts her own delivery service to make a living. As she works, facing various challenges, Kiki learns to be more patient, responsible, clever, and strong. The movie, released in 1989, is based on a
