The trailer is finally here, and it’s an exciting moment for both gamers and movie lovers! We’ve been seeing more and more video game franchises adapted for TV and film recently, bringing classic gaming battles to the big screen – like, for example,
Both gaming franchises are building excitement for their upcoming movies. Following the announcement of a theatrical and IMAX release date of May 8, 2026, Street Fighter also released its official trailer on Thursday, even though its movie isn’t scheduled to come out until October 16, 2026.
Okay, so from what I’ve seen, this movie is shaping up to be a total blast! It’s got non-stop action, and they’re really leaning into the original story – throwing in nods for fans, both obvious and subtle. It feels like they get what makes the source material special, and they’re not afraid to show it.
Street Fighter Is Fun, Self-Aware and ‘Perfect’?
If you read that last word in the classic announcer’s voice, you’re ready for Street Fighter in 2026.
Interestingly, the situation is complicated by who owns these franchises. Mortal Kombat belongs to Warner Bros., while Capcom’s Street Fighter is being developed by Paramount Skydance. There’s a lot of public tension between Warner Bros. and Paramount Skydance – from talks of a merger to recent Hollywood disputes – but that will likely resolve itself eventually.
Over 30 years ago, Jean-Claude Van Damme, with bleached blonde hair, starred as Guile in the movie, alongside Ming-Na Wen (known from ER and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Chun Li, and Raul Julia (famous for The Addams Family) as M. Bison.
What really sets this new version apart isn’t just the updated technology – things like Hadoukens were pretty basic visually back in the 90s – but the incredible actors who joined the project to bring the 2026 Street Fighter reboot to life. And you can rest assured, it won’t be overly serious; it’s meant to be fun.
Who Is In Street Fighter 2026?
There are several heavy hitters, figuratively and literally speaking, involved in Street Fighter.
This summer, Jason Momoa has a busy schedule! Not only will he be playing Lobo in the new Supergirl movie and appearing in Dune for the first time, but he also secretly portrays Blanka in the Street Fighter adaptation. Adding to the star power, Grammy-winning rapper 50 Cent (Curtis Jackson) is playing Balrog, and David Dastmalchian is taking over the role of M. Bison – and there are even more surprises in store!
WWE provided Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, two of its biggest stars, to play Guile and Akuma in a film. Andrew Koji starred as Ryu, and Noah Centineo played the popular character Ken Masters.
The classic characters from Capcom’s popular games are all included in the new Street Fighter movie, and the trailer suggests audiences are going to love it when it hits theaters in October.
