The popular Netflix series Stranger Things is ending with its fifth season in 2025. However, all the episodes won’t be available at once. The first four episodes of the final season will premiere on November 26th for Netflix subscribers. Joe Chrest, who has played Ted Wheeler since the show began in 2016, recently shared something he won’t miss now that his time on the show is over, in an interview with TopMob.
Actor Chrest, known for his memorable lines and role in A Friend of the Family, recently discussed his character and Ted’s surprisingly good relationship with Mike and Nancy, despite often being out of it. While he couldn’t reveal any specifics about the final season of the show, he did share what it’s been like keeping so many big secrets for so long.
There’s one aspect of this experience I definitely won’t miss – all the secrecy. I really enjoyed working with the Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross – they’re fantastic people, and I hope we can collaborate again in the future. They’ve dedicated their entire thirties to this show, and it’s been incredibly demanding, so I’m excited to see what they create next. I’ll miss working with them, but I’m glad to be done with keeping everything under wraps.
Despite all the excitement for Season 5, Netflix hasn’t revealed many significant plot details beyond what’s shown in the official trailer. Hints from the cast and creators haven’t given away much either. Early glimpses suggest the Wheeler family as a whole will face challenges this season, not just Mike and Nancy, though it’s still unclear what role Ted will play. Actor Joe Chrest recently shared how he’s been handling fans’ attempts to get spoilers.
I’m a parent, and I occasionally teach a class at LSU. I’m familiar with our audience, though we have a really diverse following. When I teach, students are always asking questions, and sometimes I hesitate before answering, wondering if they’re sure they want to know! I don’t want to spoil anything, because a big part of what we do is creating exciting cliffhangers. Honestly, I’ll be happy when I don’t have to worry about that anymore.
Joe Chrest likely wouldn’t have revealed any plot details about Stranger Things even if asked, but he won’t have to worry about that once the show returns in 2026. As for Ted, it’s unclear if he’ll have much downtime after the events of Season 4 left Hawkins in ruins. Season 5 of Stranger Things jumps forward 18 months, and Joe Chrest praised his experience working with the Duffer Brothers.
A spin-off of Stranger Things is planned, but the show is wrapping up the story of the original characters in Hawkins. The creators feel they’ve explored those characters and the Upside Down as much as they intended. While this may be the last time viewers see Ted Wheeler, the Duffer Brothers have a new deal with Paramount+ for other projects. Before that, though, eight more episodes will reveal if the characters can finally defeat the Upside Down.
The first four episodes of Stranger Things‘ final season will be available on Netflix starting Wednesday, November 26th at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. The remaining three episodes will drop on Christmas Day, and the extra-long finale (over two hours long!) will premiere on New Year’s Eve. If you need a reminder of what’s happened so far, you can rewatch all previous seasons on Netflix before the new episodes arrive.
