Jamie Campbell Bower discussed the shocking ending of the first part of Stranger Things Season 5, specifically the events surrounding Vecna and Will Byers, in a recent ScreenRant interview.

Bower revealed that Vecna was responsible for Will going missing, sending Demogorgons to kidnap him. Vecna needs Will to be one of twelve children to create a powerful, connected consciousness. This storyline reaches a climax in the first part of the final season, where Will discovers he has telekinetic abilities. He then uses these powers to rescue Lucas from a Demogorgon, representing a significant moment of growth for his character.

Jamie Campbell Bower, who portrays Vecna, admitted he was a little annoyed when Will momentarily resisted the character. He also expressed excitement about the emerging dynamic of having what feels like two enemies instead of just one.

The actor explained that Will will become even more of a problem as the show progresses. He added that Will’s developing abilities are a result of the connection he shares with others.

Noah Schnapp recently told Entertainment Weekly he didn’t know his character, Will, would develop powers until he read the script for Episode 4, “Sorcerer.” He was so surprised, he immediately told his assistant, “I have powers!” In the season finale, Will uses his newfound abilities – his eyes turn white and he defeats the Demogorgons with his mind – and it’s signaled by a nosebleed, a sign previously linked to Eleven.

The Duffer Brothers explained that Will isn’t becoming another Eleven. According to Matt Duffer, Will is somehow connecting with Vecna’s abilities, which lets him access and use those powers when he’s nearby.

Ross Duffer explained that they’d been planning this reveal since the second season. For the scene, Schnapp physically prepared by studying silverback gorillas, wanting his movements to look different from Eleven’s.
