Now that the first part of the final season of Stranger Things is out, viewers are starting to notice some problems and inconsistencies in the initial four episodes.
Fans have noticed some inconsistencies in season 5, volume 1 of Stranger Things. One issue involves Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) and his age in season 1, specifically how old he was when Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) took him to the Upside Down.
In the first volume of the show, Will’s mother, Joyce (Winona Ryder), recalls not checking on Will while he was sleeping the night he disappeared. However, the missing person posters shown throughout Hawkins in season one say Will was 12 years old when he went missing, not 11 as his mother states.
People quickly noticed the mistake and shared it on social media, especially on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
This isn’t the first time details about Will’s story haven’t quite added up. For example, in season 4, when Mike visits Eleven and they go to a skating rink, it’s implied Will’s birthday is on that same day. However, this fact, previously established by Joyce, is never actually stated or acknowledged.
The creators of Stranger Things are known for being meticulous with details, so viewers have noticed and are questioning why Will Byers’ age and birthday seem to be overlooked. With season 5 underway, the Duffer brothers have indicated they plan to address all lingering questions, and fans are anticipating their explanation.
It really got to me when Will’s brother, Jonathan, started talking about Castle Byers. He described building it with Will, and it was such a sweet memory – you could just feel how much that little fort meant to both of them. It was a really touching moment.
Do you remember when Dad left? We spent the whole night building Castle Byers, exactly how you designed it. It took forever because you weren’t very good at hammering – you kept missing the nails! Then it started to rain, but we didn’t come inside. We both ended up being sick for almost a week. But we were determined to finish it, weren’t we? We just had to.
In the thrilling climax of season 5’s fourth episode, Will experiences memories of happier times with his friends and family, like when they built Castle Byers – but strangely, the sky in his memory is clear and dry. This odd detail, along with Will’s increasing forgetfulness, suggests something significant is about to happen.
The first part of Stranger Things season 5 is now streaming on Netflix. The second part will be released on December 25th, and the final episode of the series will be available on December 31st.
