Stranger Things Prequel Images Reveal Mike & Eleven On Lost Adventure

We’re getting a first look at Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, the first spin-off series from the popular Netflix sci-fi hit Stranger Things. This new show will be set between the second and third seasons of the original series, filling in some gaps in the timeline. While specific plot details are still a secret, Tales from ’85 is expected to debut in 2026.

According to showrunner Eric Robles, the story developed from unanswered questions left after Eleven closed the gate to the Upside Down at the end of Stranger Things season 2. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Robles explained that the new storyline explores what happens when the science of Hawkins Lab interacts with material from the Upside Down, causing a ripple effect that impacts the creatures and phenomena in our world.

Netflix gave EW a first look at the new series with some exclusive photos. The images show Eleven in a confrontation with a mysterious enemy as Mike looks on worriedly, Lucas and Max searching with flashlights, and the group walking through a snowy forest. You can see the photos below.

To give the animated series Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 its own feel, the beloved characters will be voiced by a new cast of actors. Brooklyn Davey Norstedt will voice Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport will be Max, Luca Diaz will play Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams will voice Lucas, Braxton Quinney will be Dustin, Benjamin Plessala will be Will, and Brett Gipson will voice Hopper.

Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips are also joining the cast, though their roles haven’t been confirmed yet. The creators of the series, Matt and Ross Duffer, are guiding the new show, Tales from ’85, with Robles acting as showrunner and executive producer. At the same time, the original Stranger Things is preparing for its final season, set to premiere on Netflix.

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things began streaming on Netflix with the first four episodes available on November 26th. The remaining three episodes will be released on December 25th. In a special event, the series finale will be shown in theaters on December 31st and January 1st, coinciding with its release on Netflix. Netflix is planning a major event around the finale.

With the current season marking the end of an era for the show that helped launch streaming as we know it, the people behind the series are exploring how to continue the story. If the new installment, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, is successful, it will set the stage for the franchise to expand into different formats starting next year.
