Some fans are so determined to see the ending they wanted that they’re refusing to accept what actually happened. Despite the show costing millions to produce, a small group believes the final episodes of Stranger Things were faked by the villain, Vecna, and the real finale will somehow appear on January 7th. They’re in for a big disappointment.
Ever since the final episode of Stranger Things aired on New Year’s Eve – a special over two hours long – many fans have refused to believe it was truly the end of the show. Rumors have circulated that a significant amount of footage was cut from the final season, leading to a petition asking for it to be restored. Now, a new popular theory suggests that everything viewers saw was actually a vision taking place inside Mike’s mind. According to this idea, fans may get to see the ‘real’ ending later this week.
A popular theory, sparked by a recent social media post, suggests that Mike was knocked unconscious towards the end of the first part of Season 5. According to this idea, everything that happens afterward isn’t real – it’s a fabricated reality implanted in Mike’s mind by Vecna. Supporters of the theory point to several conversations throughout the season where Mike appears confused and seems to be struggling to understand what’s happening.
‘Stranger Things’ Is Not About to Pull the “Greatest Twist in TV History”
Opinions on this idea are sharply divided, mirroring the overall reaction to how the series ended. A lot of fans are enthusiastically embracing the possibility of a reworked storyline – similar to previous campaigns to continue the SnyderVerse – and believe a lost ending for Stranger Things will appear on Netflix on January 7th. However, many others simply don’t believe it will actually happen.
Many Stranger Things fans are likely to be upset this Wednesday. The big question is whether the anticipated finale not appearing will finally stop the wild speculation. Probably not. For years, Zack Snyder’s fans have believed their dedication led Warner Bros. to release the Snyder Cut of Justice League, and this has fueled a growing belief among viewers that fans can, and perhaps should, influence the direction of TV shows and movies, even overriding the creators’ original vision.

The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers, had a clear vision for the show from the beginning. Over five seasons, they aimed to create a story rooted in the memorable atmosphere of a beloved decade, inspired by classic adventure films from directors like Steven Spielberg, and infused with the thrilling elements of horror, science fiction, and fantasy reminiscent of Stephen King’s work. Despite any individual wishes for the final season, the Duffer brothers successfully delivered on their original plan.
