Stranger Things Brings Back Divisive Season 2 Character in Season 5 Vol. 1

A character who’s been gone for a long time unexpectedly comes back in Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1, bringing back a plotline fans thought was finished. This return creates a new mystery as the show reaches its conclusion.

Stranger Things Season 5 Vol. 1 reveals the return of Kali Prasad/Eight

Season 5 of Stranger Things brings back Kali, also known as Eight, in the fourth episode. Fans haven’t seen her since “The Lost Sister” episode in Season 2 – over eight years ago. She reappears when Eleven and Hopper go undercover at a hidden military base inside the Upside Down.

At first, Eleven thinks the army has caught Vecna. However, when Hopper breaks into the highly secure vault, he finds Kali chained up and hooked to machines. Her head is shaved, reminding everyone of when she was experimented on by Dr. Brenner.

Linda Hamilton plays Dr. Kay, who’s in charge of the military’s search for Eleven. When a new sonic weapon takes away Eleven’s powers, she and Hopper start looking for where it came from.

While questioning Lieutenant Akers, Eleven discovers a hidden, heavily guarded vault holding a being with strong psychic abilities. Thinking this is Vecna, she and Hopper embark on a dangerous attempt to infiltrate it.

Hopper goes to the lab ready to face Vecna, even if it means risking his own life. However, he doesn’t find Vecna there – instead, he discovers Kali, who’s been captured and hooked up to machines. The military seems to be using Kali, believing her abilities can create a weapon that will make Eleven weaker. Kali’s power lies in creating incredibly realistic illusions, which could be a strong defense against Vecna’s attacks on the mind.

Kali’s reappearance brings back unfinished plotlines from season two. Because she can create illusions, she might be a valuable ally in the upcoming battle against Vecna, who imprisons people within their own minds.

For the first four seasons, fans thought Kali and Eleven were the sole survivors of the experiments at Hawkins Lab. The show brings Kali back into the story as a way to finish up all the loose ends related to the lab.

Volume 1 is now streaming. Volume 2 releases December 25, with the finale dropping on December 31.
