Even though it’s not as well-known as some other Stephen King adaptations, the Netflix series 11.22.63 is definitely worth watching, especially if you like to binge-watch shows. With over 60 books written, Stephen King has naturally had both successes and failures, and that applies to the TV and movie adaptations of his work as well.
While some Stephen King TV shows, like HBO Max’s It: Welcome to Derry, become huge hits, others, such as CBS’s 2020 version of The Stand, don’t fare so well. But there’s also a third type of King adaptation: shows that don’t initially get much attention, but later gain a reputation as truly great television.
11.22.63 Is One Of The Best Stephen King Shows
Though it originally received little attention, the miniseries Storm of the Century is actually one of the greatest horror miniseries ever created. Likewise, 11.22.63, a sci-fi drama starring James Franco, remained largely unknown until it recently gained popularity on Netflix, proving it to be another of Stephen King’s best TV adaptations.
The eight-part series 11.22.63 follows Jake, a teacher who travels back in time to November 22, 1963, with the goal of preventing the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Based on Stephen King’s 2011 novel, the show originally aired on Hulu in 2016 to positive reviews. It features a strong cast including Chris Cooper, Lucy Fry, T.R. Knight, and George MacKay, making it a truly captivating thriller.

Because it’s short, tells a complete story, and moves quickly, 11.22.63 is ideal for watching all at once on Netflix. Many of the platform’s popular 2026 releases, such as His & Hers and Run Away, are dark and suspenseful murder mysteries. 11.22.63 offers a slightly different experience, providing a more fantastical escape for viewers.
Stephen King expertly balances the fantastical parts of the story with relatable characters and real consequences, preventing the plot of 11.22.63 from feeling unbelievable. The suspense surrounding Jake’s journey—and the potential for altered history—makes 11.22.63 a gripping blend of conspiracy thriller and science fiction.
Even viewers who aren’t huge Stephen King fans will find the eight episodes of 11.22.63 easy to get through. Especially now that many of his TV adaptations are being cancelled, this show deserves more attention on Netflix – it’s a truly excellent, but often overlooked, series.
