The popular sci-fi miniseries 11.22.63, based on the work of Stephen King, is moving streaming platforms. Originally a Hulu exclusive when it premiered in 2016, it will become available on in the U.S. in January 2026. This is a rare move for a show that started as a streaming original, particularly in North America.
It’s fairly common for shows to appear on different streaming services in other countries. This happens because of varying service availability and licensing agreements. For example, Castle Rock, a Hulu original based on Stephen King’s work, was available on Netflix in some parts of Asia – a practice that often occurs in regions where Hulu or Disney+ aren’t offered. However, this kind of content swapping isn’t typical in the United States.
Don’t expect 11.22.63 to simply move from Hulu to Netflix. The show disappeared from Hulu in 2024 without any announcement, and while it briefly streamed for free on Tubi a few months later, it’s no longer available there either. It’s good when shows find new homes, and it’s worth remembering that you can still buy 11.22.63 on DVD or digitally.
Despite the show receiving great reviews, it’s strange to see it move around between streaming services so much. Was it simply not popular enough to keep it in one place? Or are there issues with the rights to Stephen King’s stories? It’s also possible that the controversy surrounding the lead actor, James Franco, played a role.
Despite the differing opinions, 11.22.63 will be available to stream on Netflix again soon. That way, viewers can judge for themselves whether the show lives up to the positive reviews, some of which have hailed it as…
11.22.63 Goes from Hulu Original To Netflix
The Hulu series 11.22.63 is based on Stephen King’s 2011 novel of the same name. It tells the story of a time traveler who goes to the 1960s with the goal of stopping the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
When discussing his time travel novel, 11.22.63, Stephen King explained that the past resists being altered. He suggested that while it might be possible to make changes, the past could also push back, preventing any alteration and sending the time traveler back to the present.
The famous author explained, “The past resists being altered, but Jake’s situation is made even more difficult because he falls in love with someone from that time, and love always adds complications.”
Bridget Carpenter created the series 11.22.63, with Stephen King, Carpenter, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk serving as executive producers. James Franco stars as Jake Epping, a time traveler, and also worked as a producer on the show. The eight-episode series also features Sarah Gadon, Cherry Jones, Lucy Fry, George MacKay, Daniel Webber, T.R. Knight, Kevin J. O’Connor, Josh Duhamel, and Chris Cooper.
Starting January 7th, all eight episodes of the Hulu series 11.22.63 will be available to stream on Netflix. You can still buy the series on Blu-ray and DVD, or digitally through platforms like Amazon Video and Apple TV.
