MAGES Inc. has announced a major change to how fans can access its content, and the response has been overwhelmingly negative.
The developers of the new game Steins;Gate Re;Boot have announced that anyone who streams or posts commentary about the game when it launches will be banned, according to a recent tweet from Dexerto. They explained this decision is “due to the nature” of the game and stated they will not allow any streaming or commentary at all.
What Is Steins;Gate Re;Boot — And Why Won’t Fans Be Able to Stream It?
The visual novel Steins;Gate was created by 5pb. and Nitroplus and first launched in 2009. It’s the second game in the popular Science Adventure series. A key part of how players interact with the game is through a phone system, where you choose whether to respond to calls and messages.
I’m really into this game, Chaos;Head. You play as Rintaro Okabe, who basically calls himself a ‘mad scientist’, and he stumbles upon this crazy power to change timelines. It starts off as a fun little hobby, but things quickly get intense. Suddenly, the choices I make start seriously impacting the lives of people I care about, and it’s not just personal stuff – we’re talking potential global consequences, like maybe even starting World War III! It’s a wild ride.
When Steins;Gate came out in 2009, it was almost universally praised by critics and players alike. Since then, it’s been released on eight different gaming systems, and has sold over 100,000 copies on each one—with some versions exceeding 500,000 sales.
The popularity of Steins;Gate has led to many different versions and continuations across various formats. Beyond the original light novels, manga, and anime, the story has expanded with sequels like Steins;Gate 0 and Steins;???. There’s also a 2013 animated movie, Steins;Gate: The Movie − Load Region of Déjà Vu, which continued the narrative.
Players will soon be able to experience the original Steins;Gate with improved graphics, a modern user interface, and a completely new story. According to developer MAGES Inc., Steins;Gate is back! The game centers around Rintaro Okabe and his friends, a group of clever students whose invention allows them to send messages to the past – and change history. But as they experiment, they uncover global conspiracies and a chaotic future begins to unfold.
Steins;Gate Re;Boot is slated to be released later this year.
