The popular and passionate TV series Outlander is nearing its end, with the final episode set to air on May 8th. Currently, it’s leading the way among similar shows on streaming platforms. Premiering in 2014, this blend of historical romance and science fiction quickly became a hit with millions of viewers. Adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s novels, Outlander has enjoyed an impressive eight-season run, but is now concluding its journey on Starz.
The eighth season of Outlander returns on March 6th with six new episodes, and it continues to be a huge hit on streaming platforms. Currently, it’s the most-watched show on Starz, far ahead of its closest competitor, Spartacus: House of Ashur, which is ninth. According to Flix Patrol, Outlander has been in the Top 10 in the United States for an incredible 614 days – a testament to its enduring popularity, even twelve years after its debut.
Created by Ronald D. Moore, Outlander features Caitríona Balfe as Claire Randall, a WWII nurse who unexpectedly travels from 1945 to Scotland in 1743. Thrust into the midst of a historical rebellion, she falls in love with a strong-willed Highlander named Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) while also dealing with a husband awaiting her return in her own time. The show is an epic story of love, second chances, and history, and it’s praised for staying true to the original books, which explains why Outlander has gained such a dedicated fanbase.
Not Even ‘Outlander’s Two Stars Know How It Will End
Even after playing Claire and Jamie for over a decade, Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan don’t know how Outlander will ultimately end. Balfe recently told Parade that the show filmed multiple possible finales, and neither she nor Heughan knows which one showrunner Matthew B. Roberts has chosen for the series.
I was really anxious about what we were up to because Matt hadn’t shared any details. I’m a bit of a control freak and I need to know what’s going on, and not knowing was incredibly frustrating – I’m also naturally very curious!
Similar to what happened with Game of Thrones, the Outlander TV series will end before Diana Gabaldon finishes writing the last book in the series. Since Gabaldon is still working on the tenth book, the show’s ending and the book’s ending could be quite different. However, we expect the showrunners to deliver a satisfying conclusion, or they’ll likely face upset fans!
‘Outlander’ Continues to Impress Viewers

Most TV shows tend to lose quality over time, but Outlander is proving to be different. Even after 12 years, it still has a very strong 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, Season 8 just received a perfect 100% score – the highest the show has ever achieved! This is a remarkable feat for a series that’s been on so long, and it’s likely Outlander will be remembered as one of the best TV shows of all time.
