Star Wars Starfighter Filming Location Hints at Return to Iconic Prequel Planet, Naboo

Shawn Levy, the director of *Star Wars: Starfighter*, has revealed where the movie was filmed, suggesting the new Star Wars project might revisit Naboo, a planet featured in the prequel trilogy. Excitement for *Star Wars: Starfighter* is building because it’s one of the first Star Wars films planned for theaters since *Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker* (2019) and *The Mandalorian and Grogu* (next year). The film also boasts a strong cast, including Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams, and Flynn Gray.

Production on *Starfighter* started in August 2025, and it was announced that the film won’t be directly connected to the Skywalker Saga, despite taking place after the events of *The Rise of Skywalker*. With filming now happening, director Levy has been sharing updates online, including a first look at Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray’s characters, seemingly in costume, on a spaceship with an ocean backdrop.

Shawn Levy, the director of *Star Wars: Starfighter*, shared on Instagram that the movie is currently being filmed on the Mediterranean Sea. Since scenes for Naboo were also shot in that same location, there’s a chance *Starfighter* might revisit that planet.

In the Star Wars universe, Naboo is a planet situated close to the Outer Rim Territories. It’s known as the home of the Gungans and the birthplace of both Emperor Palpatine and Padmé Amidala.

Naboo plays a key role in *Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace*. It’s where the Skywalker Saga truly began to escalate, thanks to Padmé’s pivotal meeting with Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. The planet also hosted the famous lightsaber battle between Darth Maul, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan, a fight that sadly resulted in Qui-Gon’s death.

In Season 2, Episode 10 of *Andor*, viewers saw a quick flashback to Naboo, showing Luthen and Kleya during the beginnings of their work with the rebellion.

The new *Star Wars* movie, *Starfighter*, will be released in theaters on May 28, 2027. Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams, and Boyd Gray lead a cast that also includes Mia Goth, Matt Smith, and Aaron Pierre.

Naboo’s Possible Inclusion in Star Wars: Starfighter Has a Deeper Meaning

The potential appearance of Naboo in *Star Wars: Starfighter* is interesting because it might suggest a new danger is rising from that planet. Just as Emperor Palpatine originated from Naboo, this new threat could establish *Starfighter* as the beginning of a fresh storyline if developed well.

You know, thinking about Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray’s characters in *Starfighter*, it’s possible they’re just passing through Naboo during their whole adventure. Maybe they’re even laying low there, waiting for things to calm down before continuing their journey. It would be a cool little detail if that’s the case!

Considering Naboo’s significant role in galactic politics, it’s likely the planet served as a key meeting point or headquarters for the group trying to rebuild the New Republic. This suggests the other characters in the film might be politicians either assisting or chasing Gosling’s character.

The planet Naboo will once again play a key role in the Star Wars universe with the release of *Star Wars: Starfighter*. This could reveal hidden connections to the original Skywalker Saga and add depth to upcoming stories.
