Star Wars: Starfighter Director Reveals Main Reason He Cast Mia Goth

Mia Goth is now part of the Star Wars universe, appearing in the new film, *Starfighter*. Director Shawn Levy recently shared his reasons for choosing Goth for the project.

Why was Mia Goth cast in Star Wars: Starfighter?

In an interview with Elle magazine, Levy explained why he chose the unconventional talent of Goth for a part in *Star Wars: Starfighter*.

Director Levy explained they were looking for a truly unique actor to portray a very complicated new character in the Star Wars universe. He described Mia Goth as one-of-a-kind, saying there isn’t another actress quite like her – you can’t simply ask for someone ‘like Mia Goth’ because she’s completely original.

Actress Goth is said to be playing a villain in the upcoming movie, Starfighter. She’s hinted at the difficulty of the role, but has also spoken highly of the script, calling it excellent. Details about the plot are still being kept secret.

Jenna Ortega described the project as challenging but enjoyable, saying she’s being creatively stretched in ways she hasn’t experienced before. She emphasized that it’s a standalone story, not connected to previous films, and features a completely new cast with a particularly strong screenplay.

Ryan Gosling leads the cast of Star Wars: Starfighter, playing a protector to a young boy portrayed by Flynn Gray. The film also features performances by Matt Smith, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.

Asher Levy is directing the Star Wars film *Starfighter*, based on a script by Jonathan Tropper. The movie takes place five years after the conclusion of *Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker* and tells a separate, self-contained story.

Star Wars: Starfighter opens in theaters on May 28, 2027.

Anya Taylor-Joy is set to star in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Frankenstein series, debuting on Netflix in November 2025. She’s also joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey, which will be released in theaters in July 2026.
