Star Wars: Starfighter Cast Adds Doctor Who Star as Villain

In the latest development for the upcoming Star Wars movie, it’s been confirmed that a fresh talent will be taking on the role of the antagonist, joining forces with Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth in this galaxy far, far away.

Who is playing the villain in Star Wars: Starfighter?

As per a recent update from Deadline, Matt Smith, famously known for his roles in House of the Dragon and Doctor Who, has agreed to take on a role in an upcoming film. Although the specific character he will portray remains undisclosed, Deadline suggests that he will be essaying one of the villainous roles. It is expected that the casting process for this project will carry on over the next couple of weeks.

Smith is set to team up with Gosling and Goth, who were earlier announced, for the upcoming film “Starfighter.” As per Deadline’s reports, production on this film is scheduled to start towards the end of this autumn season. Prior to its official unveiling, it was disclosed that Mikey Madison, a previous Oscar winner, had been extended an invitation to be part of the cast. Nevertheless, due to disagreements about compensation, Anora’s lead actor decided against taking on the role in the movie.

Shawn Levy, who previously directed Deadpool & Wolverine, is attached to direct the project.

Star Wars: Starfighter will occur around five years following the events depicted in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and it is intended to be an independent story, as stated by Levy. Essentially, this isn’t a prequel or sequel; rather, it’s a fresh journey set in a timeframe not previously explored.

Star Wars: Starfighter, produced by Lucasfilm, is set to hit U.S. theaters on May 28, 2027. The next Star Wars film scheduled for a cinema release is The Mandalorian and Grogu, which comes out about a year before that, on May 22, 2026.
