There is new hope for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew season 2.

The first season of the live-action Star Wars show premiered on Disney+ in December 2024 and finished in January 2025. It follows a group of kids who grew up protected on a remote planet as they begin exploring the galaxy, encounter pirates, and attempt to return home. The show received generally positive reviews, earning a 92% rating from critics and a 79% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, but Disney+ has not yet announced whether it will be renewed for another season.

Kerry Condon, nominated for an Academy Award, recently spoke with ScreenRant about the possibility of a second season of Skeleton Crew. During an interview, she admitted she’s “heard maybe possibly” about it and expressed her hope to reunite with her young co-stars, though nothing is official at this time. Charlene Condon portrays Fara, a key character in Skeleton Crew. She’s the mother of Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) and also holds a powerful position as a government official and teacher on the planet At Attin. Because of her role as a parent and her influence on the planet, Fara is crucial to the story, particularly in the season finale where she makes the difficult decision to dismantle the Barrier.

Fara’s decision allows the New Republic to come in and save At Attin from the pirates, along with reconnecting the planet to the larger galaxy that they have isolated themselves from. Skeleton Crew season 1 ends in a way that allows it to work as a complete story, but there is more to potentially explore.

The story continues with big developments on the planet At Attin, a fresh alliance with the New Republic, and exciting new journeys for Fern, Wim, KB, and Neel. Plus, Jod Na Nawood remains a key figure in the unfolding events.

Jon Watts, co-creator of Skeleton Crew, has said they’d be happy to create a second season if there’s interest. His partner, Ford, added that they’ve already thought about potential storylines and haven’t ruled it out. While these comments were made before the first season ended, a recent statement from Condon suggests a second season is still a possibility, which is encouraging for fans.

For season 2, the four young main characters will likely need to be portrayed as older. Since filming for season 1 took place between September 2022 and January 2023, the actors—Armstrong, Cabot-Conyers, Kratter, and Smith—have all grown a lot since then. Shows like Stranger Things on Netflix have dealt with this before, so it’s an important factor to consider.

As a big Star Wars fan, it’s interesting to hear the latest from Condon, especially because things feel a little up in the air with the live-action TV shows right now. We know Ahsoka is getting a second season, but that’s about it. It seems like Lucasfilm is really shifting its focus back to making movies for the big screen – The Mandalorian and Grogu just came out, and they’ve already announced another film, Starfighter, for 2027. I’m still holding out hope for a second season of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, though. It takes place in the same timeline as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, so it feels like it could definitely still happen.
