Star Wars Rumor Suggests What Comes Next for Lucasfilm’s New Jedi Order Era

A new rumor regarding the future of the Star Wars franchise has emerged online.

As a devoted fan of the Star Wars universe created by George Lucas, I eagerly await my next adventure back to a distant galaxy, which will unfold on the big screen in May 2026 with Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and Grogu. Although Disney+ has introduced several television shows since then, nothing compares to the thrill of experiencing this epic saga in a movie theater.

Following that, the movie “Star Wars: Starfighter” directed by Shawn Levy featuring Ryan Gosling is set to be released in May 2027. Currently, several other films are being worked on, but as of now, they don’t have any confirmed release dates.

What is the new Star Wars rumor?

Based on information from insider Daniel Richtman, shared through Cosmic Marvel on Twitter, it appears that Lucasfilm intends to develop a Star Wars story set in the timeframe of the New Jedi Order, following the conclusion of The Rise of Skywalker.

In this period, we can expect events and characters reminiscent of the Mandoverse, gradually culminating in a significant occurrence that unites personas previously presented in prior films. As stated by Ritchman, this phase is set to commence with the upcoming Daisy Ridley Rey film.

At the moment, this information is merely a rumor, so it would be wise to approach it with some skepticism since Lucasfilm hasn’t provided an official confirmation yet.

It’s been confirmed that Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is set to helm a film starring Rey, which will be set around fifteen years after The Rise of Skywalker. This movie will depict Ridley’s character establishing a fresh Jedi Order. The project was officially unveiled in April 2023, but several screenwriters have left the production since then. George Nolfi has been appointed to write the script in January 2025.

In the Mandoverse, we find The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, all projects that Dave Filoni has been involved with. The Mandalorian and Grogu carry on the tale of The Mandalorian, while a new season of Ahsoka is also being developed. It’s said that Filoni is working on a movie to tie these narratives together; however, this was announced in 2023, and since then, there haven’t been many updates about it.
