Star Wars: Qimir’s Jedi and Sith Past Revealed After The Acolyte’s Cancellation

Even though The Acolyte has been divisive, one character quickly captured the attention of viewers. Manny Jacinto’s portrayal of Qimir, also known as The Stranger, a mysterious warrior of the dark side, proved to be a hit with fans.

Sadly, The Acolyte won’t be continuing with future seasons, and plans for the character Qimir have also been canceled. However, even after almost two years, we’ve discovered important information about Qimir (also known as The Stranger) that confirms several fan theories about who he is and what his story was in the Star Wars universe.

Everything We’ve Learned About Qimir After The Acolyte’s Cancellation

Most of what we know about The Stranger, which follows The Acolyte, has been shared by the show’s creator, Leslye Headland. She’s discussed it in interviews, such as on The George Lucas Talk Show, and in details released in the book The Art of The Acolyte.

A major takeaway from the Headland interview was the confirmation that Qimir wasn’t actually a Sith during the events of The Acolyte. This supports long-held fan theories and explains why The Stranger told Jedi Master Sol that he’d probably consider him a Sith Lord – suggesting Qimir didn’t see himself that way.

Qimir quickly turned away from both the Jedi and the Sith. In fact, it’s been confirmed that the scars on his back were inflicted by Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh using her special lightwhip.

Considering what happened in the last episode of The Acolyte, the revealed history of conflict between Vernestra and Qimir suggests Vernestra used to be Qimir’s Jedi teacher.

This sheds light on why Vernestra was so personally invested in the case, and likely explains her decision to partially blame the late Master Sol for Qimir’s crimes. By doing so, she bought herself more time to hunt Qimir while also satisfying the Galactic Senate’s demands for answers.

Additionally, the book The Art of the Acolyte confirms that the creators deliberately included clues hinting Qimir was probably the original Ren.

Given that Qimir abandoned both the Jedi and the Sith, it’s fitting he founded the Knights of Ren. This group of dark side fighters would later be led by Ben Solo, over 160 years later, creating a strong connection between Qimir and Kylo Ren, going beyond just their similar appearances and fighting styles.

Is There Still A Star Wars Future For Qimir aka The Stranger?

Okay, so The Acolyte might not be getting another season, but I don’t think that means we’ve seen the last of Qimir. There are plenty of ways Star Wars could continue his story! Honestly, a spin-off series focusing solely on The Stranger would be amazing. The character clearly resonated with viewers, and diving deeper into his background and journey in a dedicated show could be really captivating. I’d definitely watch that!

Following the first season of The Acolyte, a continuation of the story would be a natural next step. However, a prequel exploring Qimir’s past – his time learning from both the Jedi and the Sith before ultimately forging his own unique path and Force philosophy – could be equally compelling.

Similarly, Qimir’s history could be further developed in official Star Wars books or comics. This approach worked very well for the character Kylo Ren, so it could be effective here too.

Before the events of The Force Awakens, the Rise of Kylo Ren comic series explored Ben Solo’s transformation, his manipulation by Snoke, and his connection to the Knights of Ren. More recently, the Legacy of Vader comic, taking place between The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker, offered a compelling look at Kylo Ren’s time as the Supreme Leader of the First Order.

It would be fantastic to see the character Qimir featured in a story exploring his origins, should the Star Wars universe ever delve into that part of his history.
