Okay, so Star Wars finally explained that Super Bowl ad for The Mandalorian & Grogu, and honestly, it left a lot of us scratching our heads. For weeks, everyone was expecting a new trailer for the movie, especially after the first one didn’t really get people excited. We were hoping for something to build the hype back up, but instead, the ad was this weird, funny take on a classic Super Bowl commercial – it didn’t actually show us anything new about the movie itself! It was a bit of a surprise, to say the least.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I was really intrigued by that Mandalorian & Grogu Super Bowl ad, and Variety just dropped a fascinating article about it. Apparently, Jon Favreau, who’s directing the Mando Movie, also directed the ad! What’s even cooler is they intentionally made it feel like those classic, nostalgic Super Bowl commercials from years past. It’s a neat connection and explains why it felt so familiar – and got everyone talking!

Lucasfilm’s Ryan Stankevich explained that the trailer was designed as a tribute to memorable Super Bowl commercials from previous years, aiming to showcase the heartwarming, funny, and touching relationship between the two popular characters.
Our creative team developed a memorable concept for the commercial, inspired by classic Super Bowl ads. It highlighted the heartwarming, funny, and relatable connection between the two characters, and it’s a great way to build excitement for their movie release this summer.
Disney’s Jackson George, Executive VP of Creative Marketing, explained that Grogu isn’t just a character—he’s become a major part of pop culture, which makes him ideal for a humorous commercial like this one.
Grogu isn’t just a character – he’s become a huge part of popular culture. Traveling with the Mandalorian, he adds a touch of fun, humor, and heartwarming emotion that really resonates with viewers. This advertisement highlights how much we love these characters and reminds us of the excitement and heart that make ‘Star Wars’ special, giving us a glimpse of what to expect when these two favorites appear on the big screen.
The new trailer for the upcoming Star Wars film has received a lot of criticism online. Many fans expressed disappointment, with some questioning whether the released footage was even a proper trailer. One user on X simply wrote, “What the hell was that?”, while another commented, “Was this really the trailer? What a disappointment.”

A new trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu was revealed, along with other movie previews (you can find them all here). Fans have been eagerly waiting for a longer look at the upcoming Star Wars film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 22nd.
Pedro Pascal returns as Din Djarin in The Mandalorian & Grogu, the Disney+ series. This season, he and Grogu are tasked with a dangerous new mission: dealing with the son of the powerful crime lord Rotta the Hutt.
Was The Mandalorian & Grogu Super Bowl Trailer a Good Idea?

The trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu released after the Super Bowl didn’t seem to generate the excitement that Star Wars was hoping for.
I’m honestly a little disappointed with the reaction to the latest tease. I was really hoping for a full trailer, and it seems like a lot of other fans were too. It’s frustrating because I love how this franchise usually plays with our expectations and doesn’t take itself too seriously, but people are just upset they didn’t get what they wanted right away.
The recent Super Bowl ad featuring The Mandalorian was definitely imaginative, but it’s possible it wasn’t the best moment for the brand to attempt such a drastic change in their advertising approach.
The initial reactions to the trailer for Mandalorian & Grogu were quite divided. After a nearly seven-year absence from cinemas, fans were eager for the new Jon Favreau film to generate significant excitement for the Mando Movie. Unfortunately, the trailer didn’t quite deliver that boost.
With the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu just over three months away, the marketing needs a boost to get people excited and encourage them to see it in theaters on May 22nd. The current marketing materials feel better suited for a movie that was already guaranteed to be a success.
It’s not certain that The Mandalorian & Grogu movie will be a box office hit, and many people actually predict it will fail. Lucasfilm needs to play it safe and avoid taking risks if they want the film to succeed, considering the challenges they’re facing right now.
