The Star Wars franchise is one of Hollywood’s longest-running, and over the years, many planned projects haven’t made it to the screen. Numerous stories set in George Lucas’s universe have become well-known for being cancelled or never being produced, whether they were intended for television or film.
Just days after Adam Driver mentioned a potential movie about Ben Solo, Star Wars fans have launched a campaign to make it happen. A plane flew over Disney Studios with a banner reading “Save The Hunt for Ben Solo,” as reported by Collider. You can see photos of the campaign below.

As a huge supporter, this campaign feels a lot like what happened with Zack Snyder’s Justice League. After Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon changed the movie in 2017, fans really fought to get Zack’s original vision seen. It reminds me of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement – we even had banners outside the studio! Thankfully, after a lot of effort, the 4-hour cut finally came out on HBO Max in 2021, just like the fans wanted. It’s inspiring to see a community come together like that!
In an interview on October 20, 2025, actor Adam Driver revealed he and Kathleen Kennedy, of Lucasfilm, had talked about making a movie called The Hunt for Ben Solo. Driver had even spoken with director Steven Soderbergh about a film focused on his character, Kylo Ren, which ultimately led to Scott Z. Burns being brought on to write the script.
Despite a positive initial reaction to the idea, the character’s death in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker proved to be a major hurdle. Disney CEO Bob Iger and co-chairman Alan Bergman were hesitant to move forward with a solo film featuring the actor, because of how the 2019 movie concluded.
So, we pitched our script to Lucasfilm, and honestly, they were really into it! They got what we were trying to do and the direction we were taking things. We even presented it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, but they just weren’t convinced. The biggest hurdle was that they couldn’t reconcile the idea of Ben Solo still being alive. Sadly, that was the end of that particular story.
It’s still uncertain if the recent interest will actually lead to a film about Ben Solo being made, especially since Lucasfilm is already developing several other Star Wars movies. However, Hollywood is full of surprises, and previously canceled projects have often been revived.
There’s renewed talk about a potential movie starring the actor who played Kylo Ren, particularly after he recently shared a surprising story about what could have happened after The Rise of Skywalker. Fans are responding strongly to this news and are eager to see him return to the Star Wars universe.
