It’s been five years since The Game Awards first showed off some exciting new Star Wars games. Back in 2021, Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm announced Star Wars Eclipse, generating a lot of buzz. Now, after all this time, many fans – and those in the gaming industry – are wondering what’s happening with the game, and the truth is, we’re all waiting for news.
A recent update about the Star Wars game, Star Wars Eclipse, has caused concern among fans. According to a report on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, development is progressing very slowly, which could potentially jeopardize the game’s release.
Star Wars Eclipse Could Be A Long Way Away
According to Insider Gaming Weekly, a source familiar with the game says that development on Star Wars Eclipse stalled for several months. While a significant portion of the game is complete, finalizing it is proving difficult, causing internal issues and leaving fans wondering when it will finally be released.
According to a source close to the project, the game is still several years away from being finished. When asked about speeding up development of Star Wars Eclipse, the source said that hiring more staff would be beneficial, but company leaders are hesitant to increase spending. Quantic Dream and NetEase, the developers, are currently waiting for a potential launch window, hoping that successful releases of other games, like Spellcasters Chronicles, will provide the funding needed to complete Star Wars Eclipse.
Currently, the future of the project depends less on how innovative it is and more on whether it will make money,” the source said. “If Spellcasters doesn’t perform well financially, NetEase is likely to reconsider its support for the development team and may stop funding it altogether.
Star Wars Games Haven’t Been Doing Great Lately
As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m starting to worry about Star Wars Eclipse. It was supposed to be amazing – a brand new story set in the High Republic era, with all-new characters exploring the Outer Rim. But I’ve been hearing that development has stalled, and honestly, it’s looking like the release date is really uncertain. It’s just the latest disappointment for Star Wars games lately, and it’s a bit disheartening as a fan.
For the past ten years, Star Wars games have often promised a lot but failed to deliver. In 2017, Star Wars Battlefront II faced massive backlash for its unfair in-game purchases, almost ruining the game. A few years later, Star Wars: Squadrons didn’t sell as well as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which had been one of the franchise’s few recent successes. This pattern continued in 2024 with Star Wars Outlaws, which underperformed despite a large budget. Selling only one million copies in its first month, Star Wars Outlaws has put the future of Star Wars games at risk. Now, fans are cautiously watching the development of Star Wars Eclipse, worried it might also disappoint.
