Let me tell you, 2025 was looking pretty bleak for Star Trek fans until Khan arrived. With no new shows on TV towards the end of the year, this audio drama was a real lifesaver. It cleverly filled in the gaps, showing us what happened to that iconic villain between his first appearance in classic TOS and his legendary return in The Wrath of Khan. And the big reveal? Seriously exciting stuff. It was exactly the kind of Trek fix we needed.
The recent adventure was thrilling, but fans were curious about whether the events would be considered official Star Trek history. Thankfully, TrekMovie.com has provided some clarity, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how this impacts future shows on Paramount+.
Kristin Beyer Clarified Where Star Trek: Khan Stands In Canon
I recently learned some interesting news about the status of Star Trek: Khan. For a while, co-writer Kristin Beyer wasn’t certain if the audio drama officially counted as part of the Star Trek universe’s established story – what fans call ‘canon.’ But she’s had some recent discussions, and she’s now leaning towards believing it is canon, which is great news for fans like me!
Here’s the situation, based on my understanding. There isn’t an official authority that declares something ‘canon.’ However, the current team working on Star Trek will treat [Star Trek: Khan] as canon – meaning they won’t ignore or contradict it. They plan to include it in future stories whenever they can.
Let’s not worry about how Star Trek: Strange New Worlds altered the timeline regarding Khan’s rise to power. I’m just glad this is a great story that fits well within the larger Star Trek universe, and that it introduces a compelling new character who could appear in future installments.
When Will We Hear From Dr. Rosalind Lear Again?
A major surprise in Star Trek: Khan was the introduction of Kali, the daughter of Khan and Marla McGivers. The story revealed that Kali survived the destruction of the planet and went into hiding under the name Rosalind Lear. Years later, she requested a transfer to Ceti Alpha V from Starfleet, hoping to uncover the truth about her father’s past.

I’ve been revisiting Star Trek: Deep Space Nine lately, and it struck me how one thing really sets it apart from the newer Star Trek series. Honestly, I wish they’d bring that element back – it would make a huge difference, in my opinion!
In the final moments of Star Trek: Khan, only Tuvok, who was still an Ensign at the time, learned that Lear was actually the daughter of Khan. He promised to keep her parentage a secret, allowing her to continue living her life without that knowledge becoming public.
I’m really curious about what Dr. Rosalind Lear did after reviewing those logs. I’m hoping she might appear or at least be referenced in the final season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It might be a long shot depending on how far along production is, but perhaps a future season of Starfleet Academy could include her work in a lesson. Or maybe Tuvok mentioned something about her to the EMH when they were both on Voyager? Either way, I’m thrilled about the possibilities for expanding the established story.

Paramount+ offers streaming access to all things Star Trek, and more! You can choose between the Essential plan at $7.99 per month or the ad-free Premium plan for $12.99 per month. For the best value, consider an annual subscription at $59.99. See the deal here.
You can now listen to the full audio drama, Star Trek: Khan, on platforms like Spotify, Apple, and YouTube. If you haven’t experienced it yet, it’s a really compelling story and well worth checking out.
