Star Trek 4 Starring Chris Pine & Zoe Saldaña Gets Terrible Update

Recent news about Star Trek 4 from Paramount is likely to upset fans who were hoping for another film in the series.

What is the latest Star Trek 4 update?

Variety reports that David Ellison’s leadership at Paramount is aiming to create a fresh Star Trek film. This won’t be a continuation of the previous movies starring Chris Pine, Zoe Saldaña, and the original reboot cast, but rather a brand new story.

According to a new report from Variety, plans for a new Star Trek movie are in development, but the original cast from the J.J. Abrams films – including Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto – won’t be returning.

A fourth Star Trek movie has been in the works for almost ten years. After 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay started developing a script. Since then, several directors have been attached to the project, including S.J. Clarkson and Noah Hawley, but none of those plans moved forward. Quentin Tarantino even wrote a script for a different Star Trek film, but it never got made either.

Originally, Matt Shakman was set to direct the fourth Star Trek movie, with a planned release in 2023. The main cast, including Chris Pine, Zoe Saldaña, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Karl Urban, were confirmed to return. However, Shakman later left the project to direct a Fantastic Four film. Since then, Star Trek 4 has been on hold, with its future uncertain.

Simon Pegg recently shared hopeful news about Star Trek 4, suggesting Harlan Ellison’s involvement could revive the project.

In August, Simon Pegg expressed optimism about the future of Star Trek films. With David Ellison now in a leadership position at Paramount and having previously supported the ‘Kelvin timeline’ series, Pegg hopes they might be able to make another film.

According to Variety, the “Kelvin timeline” of Star Trek movies – which began with the 2009 film – will end with a trilogy consisting of Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), and Star Trek Beyond (2016).
