Stan Lee’s Rare Spider-Man Newspaper Comics Return, And We Have an Exclusive Look

For over thirty years, American newspaper readers followed the adventures of Spider-Man through a daily comic strip. Stan Lee originally wrote the strip, starting in the late 1970s, but Roy Thomas took over the writing duties later on, continuing until the 2010s.

What is Included in the Spider-Man Collections?

As a huge Spider-Man fan, I was so excited to hear about this new collection! It’s amazing to think that Stan Lee, the guy who really created Spider-Man with his writing, worked with his brother, Larry Lieber, who did the art, along with Fred Kida and Floro Dery. Clover Press announced that this set will include all of their collected work together, which is a dream come true for long-time fans like me!

These classic Amazing Spider-Man newspaper strips were originally restored and published in hardcover by The Library of American Comics, but those editions are now hard to find. Clover Press is bringing them back in affordable softcover collections, just as they originally appeared, with the full-color Sunday strips included alongside the daily ones. Each book will be 11″ x 8.5″ in size, presented horizontally, and protected by a sturdy slipcase for easy storage. By supporting this Kickstarter, you can get all four volumes as a set. The campaign also offers extras like a puzzle, stickers, art prints, and a bonus mini-book!

What Does Clover Press Have to Say About the Spider-Man Collections?

Hank Kanalz from Clover Press announced that by the early 1980s, Spider-Man was a regular feature in many newspapers. Building on the success of their collection of the first four years of the newspaper comic, Clover Press is continuing to release these strips. The stories from 1980-1984 show a more experienced Spider-Man dealing with longer, more complex plots filled with action, emotional moments, and the usual troubles of Peter Parker. These strips were created with Stan Lee collaborating with various artists like Larry Lieber, Fred Kida, and Floro Dery, each of whom brought a unique artistic style to the daily comic.

Clover Press’s collections of Spider-Man comic strips from 1977-1980 were very popular. While these strips had been published in hardcover before, Clover Press made them available in more affordable paperback editions. Because these issues haven’t been reprinted much over the years, they offer longtime Spider-Man fans a chance to experience years of previously uncollected official adventures.

The Spider-Man comic strip played a significant role in the story’s development. Stan Lee wanted Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson to get married within the strip, and that ultimately led to their marriage happening in the main comic book, too.

Again, is the Kickstarter link for the crowdfunding.
