St. Denis Medical: NBC’s Office-like Medical Comedy Surges on Peacock

NBC’s St. Denis Medical is quickly becoming a hit on its streaming service, Peacock, just as the second season is ending. According to data from Flix Patrol, the show has broken into the top 10 most-watched series in the United States. While The Traitors and PONIES remain the most popular shows, St. Denis Medical is gaining momentum.

Eric Ledgin and Justin Spitzer created St. Denis Medical, a mockumentary series about the daily lives of stressed and poorly paid hospital staff in a fictional Oregon hospital. The show follows doctors and nurses as they struggle to provide care while also trying to stay mentally healthy, all within a hospital that’s short on both funding and personnel.

The show features Joyce Henderson as the executive director of St. Denis Medical, David Alan Grier as Dr. Ron, an emergency physician, Josh Lawson as Dr. Bruce, a trauma surgeon, Allison Tolman as Alex, the supervising nurse, Mekki Leeper as Matt, a new registered nurse, Kayhun Kim as Serena, a travel nurse, and Kaliko Kauahi as Val, a seasoned nurse administrator.

The show St. Denis Medical also stars Steve Little, Kyle Bornheimer, and Stephen Schneider. Over its first two seasons, many popular actors have made guest appearances, including Mindy Sterling, Dee Dee Rescher, Draymond Green, Jessica Lowe, Erinn Hayes, and Nico Santos.

I’ve been following the buzz around this show since it dropped, and it’s been incredibly positive, both from critics and viewers. Right now, the first season is sitting pretty with an 81% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 27 reviews – that’s a solid endorsement! And while we haven’t seen a ton of reviews for Season 2 yet, every single one so far has been glowing. It looks like they really stuck the landing!

What One Fan-Favorite St. Denis Medical Star Thinks of Her Own Character

As St. Denis Medical Season 2 approaches, actress Meg Tollman discussed her character, Alex, the supervising nurse. Tollman explained that she sees Alex as representing the entire healthcare system, someone who believes she can handle anything and help everyone.

Tolman explained that it simply wasn’t feasible – neither for them nor for her. They lacked the necessary resources, and she was already pushing herself too hard. Trying to manage so much at once was unsustainable, even though she was determined and genuinely cared about her patients. She’s a dedicated and compassionate nurse, and her intentions are always good.

According to Tolman, David Allen Grier’s character, Doctor Ron, sees a younger version of himself in Alex. Ron recognizes that he once shared Alex’s hopeful and energetic outlook – believing he could fix anything and help everyone. However, he now feels worn out and exhausted by time.

You can now watch St. Denis Medical on Peacock. New episodes air on NBC every Monday, with the season finale on February 2nd.
