Spider-Verse’s Spider-Punk to Get His Own Spin-off Movie

A new Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse spin-off is in development.

The Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Verse series started with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018. This was followed by the 2023 release of its sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. A third film, titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is currently being developed and is set to premiere in June 2027.

What do we know about the new Spider-Punk spin-off movie?

As reported by Deadline, there are early stages of movie production underway that centers around the Spider-Punk character portrayed by Daniel Kaluuya, who made his first appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

In this upcoming movie, Kaluuya and Ajon Singh are joining forces to pen the script. At the moment, specific storyline information is being kept confidential. It’s uncertain whether any characters from the past Spider-Verse films will make an appearance, as no additional deals have been finalized yet.

Originating from the creative minds of Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel, the character known as Spider-Punk/Hobie Brown first appeared in Marvel Comics’ The Amazing Spider-Man #10, which was published in 2015. This rendition of Spider-Man hails from the universe of Earth-138 and embodies the spirit of anarchy, strumming a rebellious electric guitar while striving to dismantle corrupt institutions, corporations, and administrations.

At the moment, there’s no confirmed release date for the upcoming project because it’s currently in its early stages of development. However, considering it’s still early, it’s reasonable to anticipate that it won’t be out before ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’.

In the sequel, “Beyond the Spider-Verse,” events will unfold following the suspenseful ending seen in “Across the Spider-Verse.” Shameik Moore’s character Miles Morales (or Spider-Man) finds himself on Earth-42, where he encounters a seemingly malevolent version of himself, who is also known as Prowler, voiced by Jahrrel Jerome. Additionally, Hailee Steinfeld will reprise her role as Gwen Stacy (Spider-Woman), Jason Schwartzman as Dr. Johnathon Ohnn (The Spot), and Karan Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar (Spider-Man India) will return in the upcoming installment.

In U.S. cinemas starting June 25, 2027, you’ll find Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. For those who want to catch up, Into the Spider-Verse is available for viewing on Fubo and FXNOW, while Across the Spider-Verse can be streamed on Disney+.
