Spider-Punk Movie Announced And 2 More Spider-Man Spinoff Movies May Follow

It appears that following the announcement of a Spider-Punk movie, rumors have surfaced about additional Spider-Man spin-offs. After the conclusion of the live-action Spider-Man universe, Sony Pictures is rethinking its approach to Spider-Man films, aiming to reinvent and refresh the stories surrounding Spidey and his associates on the big screen.

One positive aspect of Sony’s sole Spider-Man ventures has been the animated Spider-Verse films, which have so far created two of the highest-rated superhero movies ever made in Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse. Therefore, for its upcoming Spider-Man stories, Sony appears to be focusing on what is successful.

After the exciting announcement of Daniel Kaluuya’s Spider-Punk film, I couldn’t help but notice buzz about not one, but two fresh animated spin-offs of everyone’s favorite web-slinger popping up on my social feeds!

In response to the news about the “Spider-Punk” movie, an insider named Daniel Richtman has hinted that there could be two additional animated Spider-Man films produced by Sony Pictures in development – one focusing on Venom and another on Spider-Woman.

“There’s also an animated Spider-Women and Venom films in development.”

As a movie reviewer, I must admit that before now, Sony’s Spider-Man-centric productions (excluding Spider-Verse and the MCU collaborations with Marvel Studios) were shrouded in uncertainty. However, it appears that Sony has found a fresh direction for their web-slinging universe: animated spin-offs focusing on characters connected to Spider-Man.

It’s uncertain whether the upcoming animated films featuring Venom and Spider-Woman will focus on characters who have previously appeared in movies, such as Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Eddie Brock (Venom) or Issa Rae’s depiction of Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman).

Based on Kaluuya’s role in the upcoming “Spider-Punk,” it’s hard to rule out these previous character/actor combinations for the other two forthcoming Spiderman spin-offs as well.

In a recent Deadline article, it’s been announced that the film titled “Spider-Punk” is underway, with Daniel Kaluuya returning to portray the rebel superhero he played in “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse“. Not only will Kaluuya be featured in the animated production, but he’ll also collaborate on writing the script for this exciting project.

The Future of Spider-Man at Sony

Following several months of speculation, Sony’s vision for future Spider-Man projects is now more transparent.

Ever since 2012 with “The Amazing Spider-Man,” Sony’s live-action Spider-Man films haven’t exactly been hitting the mark for me. They’ve struggled to deliver anything more than mediocre movies centered around the character, except for the Tom Holland MCU Spider-Man films and the “Spider-Verse” movie.

Following the catastrophic events of Kraven in December, it was clear that changes were necessary. However, the specifics of what these changes might entail continued to leave fans puzzled.

As a passionate fan, I can’t help but notice the studio’s newfound focus and vigor in exploring the animated realm of Spider-Man spin-offs. This strategy appears to be a brilliant one, given Sony’s remarkable success with its Spider-Verse saga.

Instead of limiting ourselves to just one more live-action film in the Spider-Verse series, which is highly acclaimed, why not expand this universe by creating multiple animated spin-offs based on the multidimensional web-adventures? The third and final movie, “Beyond the Spider-Verse,” is scheduled for 2027.

This provides the studio with a minimum of three additional films, offering them time to reassess their approach to live-action Spider-Man productions and profit from elements of the Spiderman franchise that have proven successful in Hollywood.
