I’m really excited about the new Spider-Man stuff coming out! It feels like they’re finally addressing some things that didn’t quite land with The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We’re getting more Tom Holland as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is great, but before that, there’s this really cool project called Spider-Noir coming to Prime Video on May 27th, and it looks totally different from anything we’ve seen before!
Spider-Noir centers around Ben Reilly, a Spider-Man from another universe who works as a private detective in 1930s New York. Nicolas Cage, who previously voiced the character in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, plays Reilly in live-action. The cast also features Li Jun Li, Brendan Gleeson, Jack Huston, and Lamorne Morris.
This show takes place in a different version of the Spider-Man universe, with fresh takes on classic characters. One character, Spider-Noir, hasn’t appeared in a live-action Spider-Man film or series since 2014, and this gives the show a unique opportunity to do something never before seen on screen.
Black Cat Is Making Her Second Live-Action Appearance In Spider-Noir
Spider-Noir features a strong cast of Spider-Man characters, with actors like Huston playing Flint Marko (Sandman), Gleeson as Silvermane, and Morris as Robbie Robertson. The character played by Li, Cat Hardy, is also significant – she’s a different take on the well-known character Felicia Hardy, also known as Black Cat.
Black Cat is a skilled thief in Marvel Comics, known for pulling off profitable robberies. Though often considered a villain, she’s more of an anti-hero and has a past romantic relationship with Spider-Man. According to Esquire magazine, in the Spider-Noir storyline, she’s a nightclub singer who draws Spider-Man into a dangerous underworld plot.
Felicia Hardy, also known as Black Cat, was first seen on screen in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with Felicity Jones in the role. Although Jones played a different take on the character, this allows Spider-Noir to achieve something the Amazing Spider-Man movies never did.
Spider-Noir Could Include Black Cat In Her Suit For The First Time In Live-Action
In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Felicia used to work for Norman Osborn, but after he passes away, she starts working for his son, Harry. She doesn’t have a large role in the movie, which is packed with several storylines: Spider-Man battling Electro, Harry trying to find a cure for a genetic illness, and Peter’s relationship with Gwen Stacy.
Although there were plans to give Felicia Hardy a bigger part in a third Amazing Spider-Man movie, that film was canceled, and actress Felicity Jones never got to play Black Cat. Luckily, with Cat Hardy appearing in Spider-Noir, this series has the potential to be the first live-action Spider-Man project to showcase Black Cat in her full costume.
The initial trailer for Spider-Noir didn’t feature him in a suit, so it’s still uncertain if he’ll actually wear one in the show. Even if he does, the suit’s design will probably be different than what fans of the comics expect, considering the series is set in the 1930s. Despite this, Spider-Noir offers the best opportunity we’ve had in over ten years to potentially see Black Cat’s suit brought to life on screen.
