Filming has resumed after a brief pause caused by a minor head injury the actor sustained during a stunt. Interestingly, recent photos from the set reveal the return of Mac Gargan, also known as Scorpion – a villain from the Marvel Cinematic Universe who hasn’t been seen since the end credits of *Spider-Man: Homecoming* nearly ten years ago.
While the wait wasn’t as long as Tim Blake Nelson’s return as The Leader – who hadn’t appeared in 17 years before *Captain America: Brave New World* – many fans had given up hope of seeing this character again. Despite what some people are saying online, Marvel Studios doesn’t forget its characters; it just takes time to find the right story to bring them back.
Recent social media photos show the actor playing Mando filming on the set of *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* while still wearing his prison uniform from *Homecoming*. This suggests the scenes involve him breaking out of jail. While the extent of his role is still unknown, some believe he and other Spider-Man villains like Boomerang might appear briefly in a montage showcasing Peter Parker’s past battles since the events of *No Way Home*.
Will Scorpion Have a Significant Role in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’?
For months, the internet has been buzzing with guesses about who will be in the new *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* movie, how important their parts will be, and if they’ll connect to the future Avengers films. A lot of this speculation has focused on conflicting reports about the role of the character Mando.
Although some people think Scorpion won’t be a significant villain in the upcoming movie, recent photos of the Mandalorian with a helicopter, and the actor hinting at Scorpion potentially getting his classic green suit, suggest he might have a bigger role than just a quick appearance. Beyond that, there are several other plot threads developing in Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man film, including the possible inclusion of two popular and powerful characters that fans love.
Early rumors suggested Mark Ruffalo would return as a classic, uncontrollable Hulk in the upcoming movie, potentially as the main villain. While details are still unclear, it now seems likely Ruffalo will appear in some capacity. Jon Bernthal is also confirmed to reprise his role as The Punisher. Recently, Deadline reported that Marvin Jones III will join the cast as Alonzo Thompson, also known as the villain Tombstone. Marvel Studios hasn’t officially confirmed these details, but reports strongly suggest they are accurate.
The next Spider-Man movie, *Brand New Day*, is scheduled to come out on July 31, 2026. It will be Marvel Studios’ only release before *Avengers: Doomsday* hits theaters in December 2026.
