The trailer for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ hints at exciting possibilities for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including connections to an upcoming Avengers movie. Both Spider-Man and the Avengers will have new films released in 2026, but there’s a potential issue that needs addressing.
Currently, it’s unconfirmed whether Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will be in Avengers: Doomsday. Additionally, other Marvel heroes expected to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day – like Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher – aren’t listed in the Doomsday cast either. However, Spider-Man: Brand New Day might still connect to a future Avengers movie, just not Doomsday specifically.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man hasn’t been seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, meaning he missed some important changes in New York City. During the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, Wilson Fisk became mayor and cracked down on vigilantes, even creating a special task force to hunt them down.
Spider-Man wasn’t involved in recent events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it doesn’t seem he’ll be part of the second season of Daredevil: Born Again either. He also missed the action in the Thunderbolts movie, where the team took on Lewis Pullman’s Sentry and his dangerous counterpart, the Void, who threatened the city.
Exposure to the Void forced people to experience their most terrifying memories. Considering this event took place on a large scale in New York, involved a formidable villain, and Spider-Man carries significant emotional baggage – like the loss of Aunt May in No Way Home – his lack of presence in the movie was noticeable. But Marvel may have a good reason for why he wasn’t there.
While Sentry/the Void and the Thunderbolts aren’t expected to show up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the trailer includes some dark, unusual shots of New York City. This could be hinting at what Spider-Man was up to during the Void’s attack, which would align with a particular scene in the movie.
With four years having passed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the upcoming Brand New Day film could show us what Peter Parker has been up to. This would also help explain the large number of villains – even lesser-known ones like Boomerang and Tarantula – appearing in the movie. One of the dangers Spider-Man faces could be an attack on the city by the Void.
A recent scene showing Spider-Man rescuing someone against a dark sky suggests he’s helping people escape the danger created by the Void, potentially linking the upcoming Spider-Man movie directly to Thunderbolts, which introduced the MCU’s new Avengers team. Though it’s not an end-of-the-world scenario, this means the Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline will be affected by events in an Avengers-related film.
